With bland chains taking over Hanoi's café scene, ancient holes such as this one have become revered treasures. To be sure, Cafe Giang's timeworn patina is almost a bleak exaggeration of communist-era non-chic. Giang Café is humbly hidden on a small lane on Nguyen Huu Huan Street in the city’s old quarter. It may be difficult to find for visitors, but it is well worth the effort. It continues to be hugely popular among Hanoi’s coffee addicts with its special ca phe trung, or egg coffee. Giang Café was founded by My Father ,Mr. Nguyen Giang in 1946, when he was working as a bartender for the famous five-star Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel. Although the café has been relocated twice, its egg coffee recipe is almost the same as in its early days, with its chief ingredients being chicken egg yolk, Vietnamese coffee powder, sweetened condensed milk, butter and cheese. The coffee is brewed in a small cup with a filter before the addition of a well-whisked mixture of the yolk and other ingredients. The cup is placed in a bowl of hot water to keep its temperature. My father developed the recipe in days when milk was scarce in Vietnam. He used egg yolks to replace milk. Whatever the time goes by, the coffee is pretty delicious mixed by the whole materials as eggs, milk, coffee that you will find them so amazing and unforgettable. The egg flavor is really fat, the coffee flavor are really both fragrant and bold. But the most important factor that make Giang Café unique and different from other restaurants is the formula how to measure exactly the fixed amount of eggs and coffee and the way to mix them perfectly that will decrease maximum the egg sickliness. Although there is a list of another drinks, egg coffee can be called as the best one and become best choice for Hanoi

Walk down any street in Vietnam, and it quickly becomes apparent this is a country that's crazy about coffee. From people sipping and sitting on low plastic stools on the sidewalk while gossiping with friends, to those who prefer the pricier, hipster-style cafes popping up around Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the need for caffeine is inescapable. Everyone at Hanoi's humble Cafe Giang however, is after something more than just a caffeine fix. They've come for "cà phê trúng," or egg coffee, a Hanoi specialty in which a creamy soft, meringue-like egg white foam is perched on dense Vietnamese coffee. While destinations across the city now serve it, this cafe claims to have invented it. There are hot and cold versions. The former is served as a a yellow concoction in a small glass. It's consumed with a spoon and tastes almost like a coffee flavored ice cream -- more like a dessert than coffee. The hot version comes resting in a small dish of hot water to maintain its temperature. The strong coffee taste at the bottom of the cup seeps through the egg -- the yellow layer on top -- and is quite thick and sweet, though not sickly.

Hoan Kiem Lake is a famous lake located in the center of Hanoi. Some people say that Hoan Kiem Lake is considered as a bouquet, which plays an important role in making the landscape of the city more beautiful and airy. Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as Sword Lake (Lake of the Returned Sword), has a total area of 12 hectares with the north - south length of 700m and the east - west width of 200m. Hoan Kiem Lake is surrounded by streets in Hanoi Old Quarters including Le Thai To street and Dinh Tien Hoang street in the east, and Hang Khay street in the south. In the past, Hoan Kiem Lake was also called as Luc Thuy Lake, which means Green Lake because the water here has the green color all year round. The name Hoan Kiem Lake is related to a legend in 15th century when King Le Thai To returned a sword for a Golden Turtle God. According to the legend, there was a fisherman named Le Than. One night, when Le Than casted a net in a river, he picked up a sword in his net. Later on, Le Than took part in Lam Son insurrection and gave the sword for Le Loi, a leader of Lam Son insurrection against Minh invaders (China) at this time. One day, when Le Loi passed through a forest, he suddenly saw a strange light on a banyan tree. He climbed to the tree and found a jeweled hilt. Le Loi immediately came back home and realized that that was the hilt of the sword that Le Than gave him. Since Le Loi used the magical sword, the morale and strength of his army significantly increased. Finally, Le Loi and his army won. He became a King of Vietnam under the name Ly Thai To. One year later, when he were sitting on the boat on Luc Thuy Lake (Ta Vong Lake), a Golden Turtle God surfaced and asked him to return the magic sword to the Dragon King (in Vietnamese, Long Vuong). Le Loi gave the sword for the Turtle. The Turtle, as quickly as possible, received the sword and dived into the lake. To commemorate this event, Le Loi renamed Luc Thuy Lake to Hoan Kiem Lake or Sword Lake. Visting Sword Lake, tourists should not ignore surrounded landscapes such as Temple of the Jade Mountain (Ngoc Son Temple), Turtle Tower, Bridge of the Rising Sun (The Huc Bridge), Ly Thai To statue, Ba Kieu Temple, Ba Da Pagoda, Pen Tower, etc. Turtle Tower is located in the center of the lake under the influence of French architecture. Some people said that if Hoan Kiem Lake is like a bouquet of Hanoi, Turtle Tower is considered the most beautiful and impressive flower in this bouquet. The tower has the distinct and unique beauty of the combination between European styles and Vietnam architecture. Being constructed in a harmonized position with the nature, the Tower has the ancient and scared beauty. The Huc Bridge is a connecting point between Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. The Bridge was constructed in 1865 and painted in red color, which makes it become outstanding and in harmony with surrounding landscape. “The Huc” means a place welcoming the sunlight in early morning. Thereby, foreign tourists also know The Huc Bridge by another name as Bridge of the Rising Sun. Additionally, a visit to Hoan Kiem Lake will not be fulfilled if tourists do not visit Ngoc Son Temple. The Temple is a beautiful architecture containing many historical values of Vietnam. It consists of two main temples. The first one is in the north worshipping Tran Hung Dao and Van Xuong. In the south, Tran Ba Temple has the unique architecture. In general, the architecture of Ngoc Son Temple is very beautiful and is a typical example of combinations between natural landscapes and manmade architecture. Hoan Kiem Lake is one of famous attractions in Hanoi not only for international tourists but also local citizens. The lake plays an important role for Hanoi citizens in many aspects. For example, in New Year Eve, people often gather here to see firework and wish others the good things. Couples often choose the Lake as one of Hanoi attractions to take wedding photos. In the early mornings, people arrive here to walk around, enjoy the cool atmosphere and do exercise. The Lake is a favorite destination of tourists as well because of the harmony among nature, architecture, and people. Visiting Hoan Kiem Lake at any time of year, tourists can experience the peaceful beauty in the vibrant and crowded city of Vietnam.

Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital lies in the North of the country and is one of the country’s top tourist hot spots. It offers French-colonial architecture, a rich food culture and a long history (the city celebrated its millennium in 2010.) The most well known and important districts in Hanoi are Ba Dinh District (aka the French Quarter) where the government offices are located and Hoan Kiem District (aka the Old Quarter) which is considered the city’s business hub and main tourist destination. One of Hanoi’s most common sights is that of streets packed with scooters, bicycles and cars swarming around pedestrians like a school of fish. Then there are the many sidewalk vendors and people simply out for a stroll and the popular Old Quarter is no exception so walking around this district is distinct from a leisurely stroll in the park. Visitors have no choice but to face the traffic in the local style but the experience of exploring the historical area is a must-do and truly well worth it.

St. Joseph's Cathedral (Vietnamese: Nhà thờ Lớn Hà Nội, Nhà thờ Chính tòa Thánh Giuse; French: Cathédrale Saint-Joseph) is a church on Nha Chung (Church) Street in the Hoàn Kiếm District of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic style) church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi to nearly 4 million Catholics in the country. The cathedral was named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam and Indochina. Construction began in 1886, with the architectural style described as resembling Notre Dame de Paris. The church was one of the first structures built by the French colonial government in Indochina when it opened in December 1886. It is the oldest church in Hanoi. The cathedral conducts mass several times during the day. For Sunday evening mass at 6:00 PM, large crowds spill out into the streets. The prayer hymns are broadcast and Catholics who are unable to enter the cathedral congregate in the street and listen to hymns.
