Head for Fourth street in San Rafael for a classic small city vibe. This little boulevard is where American Graffiti was filmed so long ago. While most of the great treasures are on 4th street, you'll also find the historic San Rafael Mission and delicious eats like Sol Food on some of the smaller side streets.

Folks like to "keep it weird" in Fairfax. It's a town that retains Northern California's artistic, individualistic spirit. Drop by the Tea Temple for a visit with friends or some time to relax. Or rock out to live music in one of several local bars. There is hiking and biking all around.

Marin Country Mart is chock full of delicious food options, including a regular farmers market and weekend food trucks. Live music on occasion (their outdoor summer jazz concerts are great!). In addition to the charming smaller stuff, you'll also find 24 hour fitness and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Favorite Coffeeshops

Incredible pastries. (The almond croissant!) Great lunch too. They now make packaged goods. And have numerous locations. If the Larkspur Landing store is too crowded for you, try the one on Magnolia. It's also quite close.

OLD SCHOOL coffee shop. Right in the middle of charming downtown San Anselmo. If you're looking for something that's a little throw back, this is a great pick.

Food scene

Gotts got famous for their burgers. (Lines for blocks in their original St. Helena location). But their menu is so much more than that. Fresh ingredients. Great for take out or eat in. And they're now just a stroll away at Bon Air Center.

Deliciously unique and fresh Puerto Rican food. Often a line out the door if you go in person (which can be fun, or a hassle, depending on your mood). They also deliver!

Housed in an old Victorian in the midst of a redwood grove, Perry's is a Bay Area staple. Eclectic menu, lively bar scene (with TVs playing sports) and their iconic blue checked tablecloths.

The freshest sushi is just minutes away. Restaurant itself is pretty basic. Located at Marin Country Mart filled with all kind of other fun things to explore. We love the Dynamite Roll, the udon noodles and every bit of their nigiri sushi. Dine there or pick up some to bring home.

For a special night out, you can't miss with the Buckeye (though you have to make a reservation or get lucky finding a spot at the bar). Decadent oysters bingo is a speciality. Great old school vibe. Right along the highway, so not much around it. But oh, so good!
