You must stroll, run, bike, take a carriage ride, or a bike taxi through The Battery. Follow East Bay Street, south of Broad, and admire the splendor of the Antebellum mansions which lead to the Battery. You can clearly see Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. There is a gazebo in the park, and plenty of benches to sit, relax, and take in the day.

Charleston is alive, and stimulating when Spoleto Festival is in town. Book tickets now, for Memorial Day weekend plus 17 days. It's non stop stimulation with world class performances. There are also plenty of opportunities to support the non profit by purchasing from the Silent Auction, attending the soirees, and buying tickets to the wonderful range of performances.

Neighborhoods
The beach is not far from my house. Take 17 North to Coleman Boulevard, and follow it through Mt. Pleasant, over the Intracoastal waterway, to the Atlantic Ocean. The island is rich with history, some not so pretty, but the setting of the sun is gorgeous. Sullivan's has several restaurants, Fort Moultrie, and the Captain's Quarters on Ion.
