This small Italian bistro next to St. Mary's Basilica comes preceded by a big reputation and strong pedigree courtesy of the local dining dynasty behind La Campana and Marmolada. No surprise then that our scallops were delicious, and though the side dishes (order one) are almost as large as the pasta dishes, the value is still incredible. Close scrutiny of the relaxed, prevalently white (go figure) interior reveals a high level of perfectionism in each element (don't fail to notice the hand-painted ceiling), but wisely leaves big impressions to the kitchen situated in full view at the end of the intimate room, where the professionalism of the chefs is on full display.

Food trucks are the latest Polish food fad, and Skwer Judah in Kazimierz - so named after the massive street mural that adorns it - provides the parking for this culinary trend. Here you'll find several meals on wheels to choose from, and in warm weather beach chairs, benches and palettes are placed all over this concrete pitch, making it one of the coolest places in town to catch some quick grub. Tenants change often, but during our most recent visit the options included Big Red Bustaurant (a vintage UK double-decker bus with upstairs seating, serving soup, sausage, and fish and chips), Frytki Belgijskie (Belgian-style fries), Boogie Truck (burgers, paninis), Pan Kumpir (loaded jacket potatoes), Andrus Food Truck (serving maczanka - the Cracovian pulled pork sandwich), Kocham Naleśniki (crepes), Yatai (sushi), Wiązana Kawa (coffee) and Chimney Cake Bakery. Opening hours and availability vary with each, of course, but most are open roughly 12:00 - 22:00; Sat, Sun 12:00 - 24:00 (note that there are fewer venues open on Monday).

A food truck 'park' that actually resembles a park (rather than parking lot), the location at the far end of enormous Błonia meadow may seem far afield, but it's actually the perfect place for families frolicking in Jordan Park to escape and get some food. Well designed with boardwalks built over the grass (where yoga was taking place during our visit), plenty of beachchairs and picnic tables, and even a small playground for the kids, here you'll find upwards of 15 food trucks on any given day, including most of the staples of mobile cuisine - burgers, fries, hot dogs, coffee, ice cream, sandwiches, etc. Frequent host to food festivals, parties and other events, this is certainly Kraków's nicest food truck park.

The oddly shaped and rather uninspired interior of this Brazilian barbecue - or churrascaria - might not make the best first impression, but order in good faith and you will be resoundingly rewarded by the food. Beautifully presented on gorgeous dishware and cutting boards, the chef is clearly a visionary and everything we tried was delicious - from the white vegetable cream soup with truffle oil and roasted pumpkin seeds, to the chicken saffron risotto and rack of pork ribs. A churrascaria is all about the skewered grilled meats, however, and not only are they tasty and tender, but the barbecue sauce is also top-notch. Choose a bottle from their wine list and you've won the evening.

This simple Israeli restaurant - with its modest decor, warm hospitality and slightly grating Arabic music - captures what we now imagine it must be like to dine in a small eatery in actual Galilee. Ironically, the most exciting thing about White Camel isn't what you order, but the numerous complimentary side dishes (including delicious falafel and hummus) that accompany each entree. Choose from a variety of lamb and chicken dishes, kofta and fresh fish; we went with 'kofta with tomato' and ended up with exactly 9(!) dishes on the table - and that's not including the beautiful brass finjan and coffee saucers. It's quite amazing to be dining alone and have the entire table laid out for a feast. An experience clearly designed for hours of feeding, reserve some space in your schedule and your stomach.

Marmolada offers delicious local Małopolska delicacies, perfectly prepared and fired for a few minutes in a large stone oven before arriving at your table. Narrow, yet long and cavernous, Marmolada utilises floral folk patterns, canopied ceilings, big timber tables and poinsettias to create their unique combination of a comfortable local atmosphere and low prices with great food and service. Go elegant on Grodzka, just doors down from the city's most exclusive restaurant (Wierzynek), and you can leave with a bill that's less than half the size.

Founded in 1840, and reopening after 14 years of silence, this historic brewery has reinvented itself as an upscale brew-pub (coinciding with the completion of the exclusive residences that surround it), replete with a snazzy logo, stylish post-industrial design, door greeters, sports on the tele, a full card of local fare, and 11 signature craft ales brewed on-site. Opened by the Jewish Culture Festival Association in a former prayer house, Cheder continues Kazimierz's obsession with its past, serving as a Jewish cultural centre and cafe. A large open space with wooden furnishings, Cheder hosts lectures, film screenings, concerts and other events promoting Judaism; however its most impressive resource is the in-house library of Jewish-related books, many of which are in English. Whatever your relationship with Israel, this quiet, wifi-enabled cafe is undeniably one of the best places to work or study in town, with a delicious cup of Israeli coffee served in a traditional finjan to guide you.

Hardly where one would expect to find a rustic mountain cottage, this largely unheralded Polish folk restaurant just north of the Old Town is one of the best in the area and offers a great introduction to the carnivorous inclinations of traditional Polish cuisine. Meals begin with some of the best smalec (savoury lard spread) we've ever had as guests peruse a budget menu that comprises a veritable menagerie of grilled animals. A great winter oasis, step off the dirty streets into Chata's homely interior - made almost entirely of large unfinished timber logs, from the walls to the tables and benches - and relax near the fireplace on one of the many sheepskin rugs that make up the decor. In summer, stop in for a cold beer and traditional beer snacks.

This upscale 'beef-stro' (our turn-of-phrase, thanks) specialises in locally-sourced seasoned meat, dry-aged on-site for at least twenty days. With an industrial interior offset by large timber tables, and featuring a vast open kitchen, Ed Red conveys the atmosphere of an NYC steakhouse, but the curt menu is built upon local Polish products and delicacies that change every three months. alongside a wide selection of wines. Though casual in style, the service is outstandingly professional, and everything from the tempting and creative culinary cocktails to the monogrammed cloth napkins reveals that this is a fully thought-out effort. Leaning on its status as a local favourite, this legendary eatery has moved farther off the beaten track but continues to serve up delicious traditional Polish dishes with slightly more panache and ambience than a milk bar. You’ll find Jeff’s inside a shopping mall but that does nothing to deter the American ex-pats and well-heeled locals who use the place. This is your classic TGIF-style affair, only these guys do it a little better, with both the steak and ribs regularly eliciting glowing reports from Yank exiles. Staff with sugar smiles in skimpy denim shorts keep the drinks flowing while interiors are your standard soup of old adverts, road signs and number plates.

Manzana's 'New Latin' concept cuisine consists of meat and fish dishes alongside reinvented Mexican classics (the massive burritos can be prepared a number of ways) served in a chic cantina interior of dark, glossy colours, an open kitchen and low-level Latin music. Though the prices aim a bit high, the service and atmosphere are comfortably relaxed, making Manzana the kind of place you'd want to frequent often. This vast and stylish canteen has established itself as one of Kazimierz's cornerstones, with wide appeal that seems to attract everyone from cotton-candy haired grannies to first daters, families and fashionistas. The extensive menu offers something for them all including burgers, pizza, pasta, soups, shakes and steaks, and the gorgeous servers also get points for being good at their jobs. With three large salons, including a large covered terrace, it's an ideal destination for large groups. Totally trendy with bright, bold colours and funky fabrics on retro furnishings, there's even a moped and a huge screen when sports take precedence over the silent films that run otherwise. A bit expensive in our opinion, but there are just too many pluses for us to put this place down.

This delicious venture is certainly in the running for Kraków’s best pizza, with thin crust pies that can get seriously experimental with topping choices like roast turkey, almonds or avocado. The chef also extends his repertoire to cover numerous Italian dishes, and patrons get to choose between two exceedingly pleasant dining areas: the exquisitely intimate summer garden, or warm, dusky interior complete with log fire and wall frescoes. Following a 130 million PLN modernisation project, Kraków Główny - the catch-all title of the city’s vast underground transportation centre - now offers easy transfers between train, bus and tram transport. Of course the Galeria Krakowska shopping mall is also cleverly integrated, and along with modern conveniences like waiting rooms, escalators and elevators, you’ll also find plenty of additional consumer opportunities, including cafes, supermarkets, souvenir shops, bookstores and more. With tunnels, stairs and signs leading off in every direction, it’s all quite confusing (erm, we mean, modern!), but fear not - IYP will help you sort it out.

If you arrived by train it's unlikely you missed this place, which has been sneakily incorporated into the new train station, making it one of the most centrally located shopping malls in Europe. Covering 60,000 square metres over three floors, stores housed here include H&M, Peek & Cloppenburg, electronics giant Saturn, Carrefour supermarket and over 260 other retail units, 1400 parking spaces, and a bustling food court area. The mall itself and the large square in front of it are also home to frequent exhibits and events, and have helped contribute to the regeneration of the once-dodgy area.
