Αξιοθέατα

Kalamata is the capital of Messinia Province in South Peloponesse. A beautiful city with friendly people, lots of history, arts and culture, bars and restaurants and very easy access to a large beach. First time visitors must see the historical center of the city, with all of the old city which contains the castle and the stone-paved streets and buildings. Visit the Historical Museum and the Church where the greek revolution initiated in the 19th century. Continuing your walk downtown you'll find the central square surrounded by a large market and lots of cafeterias. Further down is a unique park, an open museum with vintage trains as excibits, that are also accessible to the people, where you can take your signature Kalamata pictures! Summer nights in Kalamata always start with a walk along the port and the beach. At any point you can find a place to eat or have a drink by the sea. For the athletic ones the whole coastline is great for walking or jogging, especially at sunset. For the ones who dare chose to go paragliding, hiking, rafting, kayaking, all with Kalamata as your starting point. Whenever you visit make sure to check the events going on at that time, like the International dance festival, the Street Festival, and many other music, theater or sports meetings filling up the season. This city will give both the thrill of the adventure and the relaxation of the vacation. You'll get the chance to taste traditional greek food but also with a modern twist. After you've seen the capital, don't forget there's the whole Messinia to explore next. Our house is stratigically located away from the noise but also at a point where you can quickly get on your way for your next excursion. And when you are too tired from all that the beautiful Bouka beach of Messini is just five minutes away! Messini will provide you with all you'll need from super markets, drug stores, with a health center to feel safe, and a central square for the quiet evenings, all in a walking distance. Feel free to ask us for more detailed information about your specific tastes, as we not only wish you have a pleasant stay in our house, but also to get the best possible holidays in our hometown.

Here are a few recommendations for places in Kalamata: -"Kardamo", in the city center, is very nice, many locals choose it. -The Marina Area, in the west coast of Kalamata has plenty of restaurants, many with sea view, so you can have a walk around and choose. We usually go to "Da fransesco" for Italian food and "Kannas" for fish and sea-food -The east coast of Kalamata has also many places, like "Tampakis" and "Routsis" tavern, "Yiamas Gastro Bar" (inside Elite hotel) for more gourmet dishes and "Tricky" bar, for interesting sandwiches, salads and breakfast (and cocktails too!). However almost every place offers good quality. -Just outside of Kalamata are Kourkoutas tavern for great sea-food and view. "Touristiko" cafe and restaurant is very good for a whole day at the beach and good food after swimming. In Messini you can go to the square which has a few places for traditional souvlaki and gyros. Restaurant "Avli" , which is very close to the house, has good food and a selection of wines. Last, at the beach of Messini (Bouka) the beach bar on your left also has a nice tavern.
