This place is magical. Sitting on the other side of the border wall on a section with access is a treasure for the Rio Grande Valley. Monty the Montezuma Bald Cypress is beautiful. Go over and hug this tree. Admire the wildlife around you.

What a magnificent butterfly garden! So many different types of plants that host bees, moths, and pollinators, in general. A special treat are numerous, unique host plants and trees that I have never seen before! Rare beauties! What an educational experience that the entire family can enjoy! I highly recommend this wonderful place to observe both native flora and fauna. 🌻🐝 🐌🐞🐛

Truly a hidden gem of South Texas. It is a bit of a hike to get there. You will need good hiking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. Great place to see nature.

The hand-pulled ferry, which runs between Los Ebanos, Texas and the town of Diaz Ordaz, Mexico, is the last of its kind.Just 20 miles away. So-named because of a large Texas ebony tree which anchors the three-car barge on the U.S. side, the ferry has been in operation since 1950, although this current boat only since 1979.

Excellent local brewery. 5x5 Brewing Co. is the brainchild of brothers, Matt Mazur, and George Rice and longtime friend Matt Bowling. Displeased with the available variety of beers in the Rio Grande Valley in the early 1990s, Matt Mazur and Bowling played with the idea of starting a beer-centric publication. They hoped to help educate local RGV beer and develop a demand for more new and exciting beers, but it never launched. With a strong interest in beers, Bowling began a 15-year journey into the home brewing scene. With a few well-received competitions, he was able to hone his craft and develop the incredible recipes that are used today at 5x5 Brewing Co. Matt and George approached their childhood friend Sean Downey to bring his professional background in Marketing and Business Administration to the table and with the tireless hard work, from the three Co-Founders 5x5 Brewing Co. was able to get the momentum to go from a 20-year-old idea of writing about beer, to create the beer that our fans love and crave. George Rice (U.S. Army) and Sean Downey (U.S. Marine Corps) proudly served in our military, and it is with the love for their brothers in arms and an unquenchable love for beer that 5x5 Brewing Co. has adopted its military theme, including its name, which was a term used by radio operators to describe when signal and clarity was at its best. Recently, 5x5 Brewing Co. partnered with two more veterans Roberto Rodriguez (U.S. Army) and Alex Gelman (U.S. Navy), both RGV natives, to bring even more dedication and passion to the business of creating quality craft beers. They will focus on connecting with our fans and allowing them to become immersed in the camaraderie and esprit de corps associated with military life. 5x5 Brewing Co. – Battle Born, Texas Made!
