Queer Spaces and Places

This is a collection of a few places that I hold near and dear to my gay little heart.
This place is incredible. Andrea, the owner, is so friendly and knowledgeable. She stocks tons of local goods, as well as an and all supplies you might need for healing. The tea selection is unparalleled. They have tons of magickal items and carry CBD, if you are looking for that kind of thing. They also host 9am Saturday Meditation for free. It is a gathering of so many wonderful people, where any gender is welcome.

Every time Ash and I go here on for dinner, we are sharing the tiny restaurant with at least two to three other queer couples. Have some wine, burrata and flirt shamelessly with your date. You are safe and welcome and definitely not alone here. Bonus points, if you head up the street to the First Presbyterian Church and take a selfie in front of the iconic gay stairs.

A little drive, but totally worth it. All vegan hyper-local food. The place has good vibes and is usually filled with young hip college students canoodling.

Cornell College is steps away from the bed and breakfasts front door. They employ tons of queer facility and are home to even more queer students. They have a booming theater that explores all sorts of topics that speak to the queer community. The schedule is always changing so check their website. Also the campus is beautiful and makes you feel like you are in a charming little European town.

This place has a great writers night once a month, that features many talented queer writers from the area. I am always blown away by the talent and honest. Every Thursday night they have vinyl night, feel free to borrow one of our records and take it for a spin. They have a nice selection of local beer and wine. Sip and shop, they represent a plethora of local artists.

Prairie Lights is an icon in Iowa City. The small local bookstore has hosted hundreds of famous writers for readings over their 30+ years in business. They have a great selection of queer literature and are as welcoming as could be. Make sure you get a sea salt latte from their cafe upstairs.
