Maybe a bit creepy to recommend but the monuments here are master-crafted and a must-see! My favorite is an double grave marked by an elderly couple sitting up and holding hands in bed. (45 minutes away) Rock of Ages Granite Quarry is nearby and worth seeing, too!

Recently voted the "Best Small Town in America" by USA Today, Montpelier is the smallest state capital. We enjoy the independently owned small shops offering books, recordings, clothing, fine crafts chocolates and pastries, the Statehouse and great food! Well worth the half hour drive---and on the way to Barre if you are planning to go to Hope Cemetery.
