Food Scene
• Pizzeria/Ristorante Alle Vigne in San Peretto, 20 minutes' walk through the vineyards, or 5 mins by car. We recommend this as the best value for money in Negrar. The food is excellent and prices reasonable. Booking usually not necessary (or possible) – you may have to wait a while at weekends, but it's worth the wait – ask for a 'prosecco from the bar in the meantime. Closed on Tuesdays. Booking – phone 045 7501472

Valpolicella: Molina Waterfalls Molina is a medieval village at the junction between three valleys in steep wooded mountainside about half an hour from Negrar. The village itself is charming. The old houses reflect the style of the western Lessinia, and its botanical museum in the main square has a fine exhibition of local flora. But the main attraction is the walk down to the park for breathtaking views of the walls of nude rock and the roaring waterfalls. For the bravest we recommend a play on the swing which takes you right up to the waterfalls. We recommend good walking shoes - it can be slippery and when you get down to the last waterfall, it's quite a long walk back up again. There i

Lake Garda Lake Garda is wonderful with so many places to see - Lazise, Bardolino, Garda and Torri del Benaco are the nearest. Malcesine with its cable-car and charming side streets and port is perhaps our favourite, then north to Torbole (best wind for windsurfing) and Riva del Garda. To the south, don't miss Sirmione with its Roman villa (Grotto di Catullo) at the end of the peninsula. For a great day out, take the ferry from Torri del Benaco to Maderno, or from Malcesine to Limone. The best place for swimming is Punta San Vigilio - park at the top of the hill between Garda and Torri.
