Best things to do in Willamette Valley

Kunstmuseum

“Portland Art Museum has a fine standing collection and lots of fresh, relevant rotating exhibits. You can also enjoy a wide variety of independent and foreign films at the Whitsell Auditorium, part of the NW Film Center. The gift shop is wonderful with lots of gifts for both adults and children that will satisfy both curiosity and the discerning eye. Pay special attention to the major exhibits, they are well worth the price of admission!”

“Some of the best fried chicken around! Their website has a real-time wait time so you can avoid the long lines.”

Bar
“An old elementary school turned restaurant/bar/theater/hotel? What’s not to be intrigued about? Bring $5, a bathing suit, and a towel and you can even pop in the soaking pool for a swim, beer (or wine) in hand! If you aren’t familiar with the McMenamjn brothers, they have over 60 locations in the NW - most of which are quirky, unique spots similar to this. Good beer, cheap 2nd run movies, and a cool atmosphere are a plus, the wait for service can be kind of a drag from time to time, though.”

Zoo
“We have an incredible zoo and it's located in the same area as the famous Rose Gardens and the Japanese Gardens. Definitely worth a day of your time to see all three!”

“Remember that Portlandia episode where they're watching Battlestar Galactica and they miss a birthday dinner at Screen Door? This is the place. Seriously, everyone goes here for their birthday because it's such a treat. The downside is that it's typically packed. Get there before they open so you can get your name on the list. It's not in the neighborhood but it's also not far.”

“ One of the best breakfast/brunch/dinner spots in the neighborhood and an easy 15min walk. There is almost always a wait but it's quick... walk around the hood while your table awaits.”

“American fast-food style burger in a bar/restaurant with a nice outdoor patio. Most pubs in the neighborhood offer good, hefty burgers with plenty of dressings, this is a simpler, slightly smaller one, but solid and satisfying. This restaurant is attached to the lovely Mississippi Studios music venue.”

“There are multiple locations in Portland depending on where you are headed but this one is the closest. You can expect a line but this is a local favorite. Great tacos or we really like the Bryan's bowl. ”

“A gorgeous, artsy old theater. You can order McMenamins' pizza slices and other pub food, and beer, and dine while you watch a show. I don't normally recommend movie theaters for a vacation, but this one is just beautiful and quite an experience in my opinion due to McMenamins artful touches on a vintage theater. ”

Mexikanisches Restaurant

“Por Qué No is a Portland Mexican food staple were people wait line 20-30 people deep at night, way less crowded during the day. The food is excellent and worth the wait, I think, with indoor and outdoor seating in a quirky setting. This is one of those places that everyone that visits Portland wants to visit, and while there are plenty of other Spanish / Mexican type places around, the aesthetic and quality of food of this one is why people visit and come back. Insider tip, if you're not planning on dining in, you can look at the menu online and call ahead. Your food will be ready at the counter and you skip the lines. ”

“This is an awesome museum consisting of two huge buildings full of well presented displays or actual items or excellent replicas, plus an IMAX theater. It is big draw for students and people who are interested in Aviation or Space travel . A major indoor waterpark is also part of the complex that is its own attraction.”
