“Another one for the slightly older crowd and named after the infamous Berlin border crossing, Checkpoint Charlie is a raucous party bar full Berlin Wall memorabilia and a regular crowd of local ladies and gentlemen grinding away to the rhythm of classic rock and pop. Snacks such as chicken wings and French fries are always available although the main draw seems to be the affordable beer, which curiously is often sold auction-style, changing price every now and then depending on demand. Find it down the alley near the Hotel de Paris.”

“Meant to be the Dictator's mausoleum, designed by his daughter after his death. It was never used because of the fall of communism. ”

Night Club
“With space for up to 500 party animals, the extremely well established and equally popular Lolipop is an achingly cool club for cocktails, gossip and the latest in house and dance music. Hosting such names in the past as the English DJ and producer John Digweed, inside find lots of brushed steel, sofas in vivid red and blinding polka dots on the walls.”

It remains one of the most relaxing places in the city, despite increasing buildings being developed near the park, an early-morning run or promenade is a daily routines for many citizens. To the southern end of the Park, there is the Zoo and the Botanical Garden. The latter includes many flowers and plants that are common the Albanian environment.”

“A mannequin in traditional Albanian dress will greet you with a stony smile as you enter this tourist favourite. The pantomime continues inside and the restaurant is stuffed with traditional crafts, and while its popularity with travellers means you won't feel like you've discovered a truly authentic slice of the country, the delicious menu makes it well worth a visit.”

“The “House of Leaves” represents Albania's attempt at building a sincere relationship with its past. Initially intended for health services, during WWII, this enigmatic building was used by the Gestapo and afterword converted into the headquarters of Albania’s former State Security (SigurimiiShtetit) where the sophisticated tapping of the capital's population took place. The proximity of the building to the Central Post Office was no coincidence as this facilitated the interception of the people’s correspondence. The building is easily accessible from any point in Tirana, located only a few meters from Skanderbeg Square, opposite the Orthodox Cathedral. ”

“Slightly hidden away in the small clutch of new office buildings immediately east of Sheshi Skënderbej and a firm business dinner favourite, expect a classy interior without going too far over the top and sweaty chefs in big white hats slaving away in the open kitchen. The bill of fare features all of your favourite Italian dishes with a few surprises such as their rather awesome cheeseburger. The outside seating is a little way from the chaos in the street and provides some much needed shade during the heat of the summer.”

“Era’s flagship restaurant promotes itself as a classy dining experience and a pizza restaurant in one, although in our opinion its highest accolade comes as the best place in the city to sample the finest Albanian cuisine from all over the country. A little pricey compared to similar restaurants simply because it uses the best and freshest ingredients, find yourself rubbing shoulders with everyone from brash American backpackers to men in sharp suits delivered and driven away again in expensive-looking cars. If you don’t know want to order, the waiters are well versed in the complexities of the menu. ”
