“A fantastic and varied circular route starting 12km from Kinloch. Walk through bush, open farm land, beech forest and join the Greenstone track for the last leg. There is ample opportunity for photography and bird watching. Enjoy the crystal clear waters at Elfin Bay and picturesque Lake Rere (running water), a popular tourist destination in the late 19th century.”

Route
“The Caples Valley is a narrow valley filled with forest interspersed with grassy clearings. The track can be linked with the Greenstone track (ending where you started) or Routeburn track (ends 31km up the road), or it can be walked one way, starting or finishing either at the Divide or the Greenstone Shelter. The superb diversity of natural features in this area is recognised internationally with the establishment of the Te Wāhipounamu-South West New Zealand World Heritage Area.”

Skate Park
“Mt. Alfred is an amazing day walk affording spectacular 360 degree views of the surroundings. The track is steep, but three quarters of the climb follows a good zig zag track. Above the bushline it gets steeper and is exposed (not recommended for young children).”

“Starting approximately 15 minutes drive from Kinloch, the Diamond Creek walk is a gentle stroll. Diamond Creek is a very popular stream with trout fisherman and avid birders. This sometimes boggy track to Lake Reid gives excellent opportunities for viewing waterfowl and views up to Paradise and the Dart Valley.”
