“Across the river from the old town is this giant cathedral. In Georgia, there is no shortage of cathedrals and churches but this one is really impressive. The inside isn’t very remarkable though so spend more time admiring the exterior and the city views.”

“Dry Bridge is an extraordinary flea market in the center of Tbilisi, perfect for lovers of old and antique things. There is a huge assortment of antiques, jewelry, old books, maps, pins, badges, kitchenware, and other small items on sale. Some items are local, some are Soviet, and some are from further abroad. The name of the market comes from the fact that the bridge that it is held on used to run over the river, but now is over a road.”

“Metekhi is a historic neighborhood of Tbilisi, Georgia, located on the elevated cliff that overlooks the Mtkvari river. The neighborhood is home to the eponymous Metekhi Church of Assumption. The district was one of the earliest inhabited areas on the city’s territory. According to traditional accounts, King Vakhtang I Gorgasali erected here a church and a fort which served also as a king’s residence; hence comes the name Metekhi which dates back to the 12th century and literally means “the area around the palace”. Tradition holds that it was also a site where the 5th-century martyr lady Saint Shushanik was buried. However, none of these structures have survived the Mongol invasion of 1235.”

Caucasian Restaurant
“Babare stands for Barbare Jorjadze - a legendary Georgian chef and the author of the first extensive book about Georgian cuisine from the 19th century. The restaurant has revisited this cook book and now allows both visitors and Georgians alike to rediscover forgotten treasures of the country’s heritage: the pumpkin patties and cherry soup with mint are our favourites. One word of warning: the restaurant doesn’t serve any beer, but does offer a wonderful selection of kvevri wines, fitting given that the basement is an original 19th century wine cellar.”
