Kirche
“Among the European cathedrals the one in Split finds its seat in the oldest building - the Mausoleum of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Inside the cathedral, at the end of the second millennium, the history reconciles ancient pagan, Christian Medieval and modern heritage. Mausoleum of the Emperor - persecutor of Christians becomes a cathedral in the 7th century where altars with relics of St Domnius and St Anastasius, martyrs executed in the nearby Solin, take an honorary place. From the bell (57 m) you have bet view in the town”

Denkmal/Wahrzeichen
“The best preserved of the 4 gates of the Diocletian's Palace is the Golden Gate (the northern gate). It was the main entrance to the Palace. For that reason it used to be decorated with statues of the Emperor Diocletian and his co-regent Maximian which were placed in the upper row of the niches, and in the lower niches were the statues of their successors. The richly decorated consoles and capitals are still in place. On the capital to the west of the gate is a small but very important detail – the name Zotikos chiselled into the stone, one of the rare names of those who worked on the Palace.”

“Diocletian's Palace is an ancient palace built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD. While it is referred to as a "palace" because of its intended use as the retirement residence of Diocletian, the term can be misleading as the structure is massive and more resembles a large fortress. Today the remains of the palace are part of the historic core of Split, which, in 1979 were listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Sites.”
