“I highly recommend going to St. John. It is a beautiful island that is 80% National Park. Either take the walk on ferry (runs every hour from Red Hook) and just walk around Cruz Bay or take the car ferry and make a whole day of it. There are great restaurants, historic sights, hiking trails, and pristine beaches.”

Restaurant
“Open for lunch and dinner. It’s got a centrally located bar right across from the water and all of the seating is outside. Burgers, fish sandwiches, conch fritters, steaks, salads, some kind of alfredo, desserts. Full service. Live music playing softly in the background. Like that. It’s a solid choice for dinner out in coral bay and it is NOT as fancy as the website makes it seem! ”

“The Longboard serves great specialty drinks to sip at the bar while watching old surfing videos. Our favorite is The Cane Garden. These folks were generous after Hurricane Irma and supplied hot meals for the community. We love to support them and we make up reasons to go to Cruz Bay to eat their wonderful food.”

“Miss Lucy's is known for a great grouper reuben, which should be enjoyed with a Lime in the Coconut. We like to go to the Salt Pond Bay in the morning and to Miss Lucy's for a late lunch.”

“Rhumb Lines/ Indigo Grill- Recent merger of two restaurants into one space. I think what’s going on now is that it’s the Indigo menu (eclectic american) for lunch and Rhumb Lines (pan asian) for dinner. Worth checking out just to see what’s happening. It’ll either be Pad Thai or gourmet tater tots. Very tropical vibe. Popular Happy Hour. Also, they frequently have live music. ”

“Hiking, Snorkeling, Diving, Swimming, Beachcombing... just enjoying the beaches and scenery of the Caribbean is incredible! From Trunk Bay, voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world... to Hansen Beach on the East End, you will love every minute!”

Nature
“One of the most highly-filmed beaches on the planet and for good reason. Once you've been there, you'll see it in movies and say "I've been there!". It did take a bit of a beating in the hurricanes, but I hear the services are mostly back and running. Getting there and back: Sapphire is really close to the Ferry Dock, so that is great. Ride the Safari to the Ferry ($1 each). Take the Ferry to St. John. Leaves every hour. $8.15 pp each way. Take a Taxi to the beach ($7 pp). Hang out at the beach all day. SOOOO nice. Trunk has the famous underwater trail that goes out to the rock. Then taxi back ($6-7 pp) -- stop in town for some shopping/eating if you want -- and Ferry back ($6) and Taxi back to Sapphire ($4). It can get a little spendy with all the transportation. This is the most "famous" beach on St. John. But keep reading for MY favorite. ”

“Pickles is like the community center of Coral Bay. They open early. They have breakfast. It’s a deli. They make sandwiches and salads and wraps you can take to the beach. They sell beer. There is often some kind of community event going on outside. They are only open for breakfast and lunch EXCEPT on Thursday when they stay open late. Thursday is open-mic music night and it is easily the most attended event in Coral Bay. Cars line the streets. I’m pretty sure they serve food at music night, too. ”

“Cruz Bay. At the traffic circle, take the first exit directly to the right of the straight up hill (that would take you to Route 10 / Centerline Road). You will end up on a one way side street where there will a church on your right. Proceed straight down this road, and down a hill, then the Starfish Market will be on your left. Biggest grocery store on island. Within the store there is a meat & seafood section and deli for freshly made sandwiches, hot entrees, pizza, bread. This is a shopping complex called the Marketplace that not only has a grocery store, but other shops including: a pharmacy called Chelsea Drug, and deli called Sam and Jacks. ”

“Annaberg Plantation is a beautiful historic sight. Hundreds of years ago when sugar and rum wherein high demand, these islands were big producers. This plantation was used to harvest sugar from sugar cane, and the buildings are largely intact despite their age. ”
