Garten
“One of Portland's coolest and most beautiful spots in a sketchy area. The Chinese Gardens are a full block radius oasis in Chinatown and so worth the visit. They have the Tao of Tea teahouse inside and you can easily spend a couple of hours relaxing and wandering and taking photos and having tea. Just be aware that Chinatown is not a nice area. It's an intriguing contrast. ”

Café
“Ok. Ignore this photo. Not a good representation of their cuisine. Imagine comfort food as comforting as you've ever had. Amazing breads. Sumptuous salads. Wholesome soups. Grits. Fluffly pancakes. We don't go here often because it's hard to get into, but if you're patient and want to experience amazingly prepared just good food, go here. And check out their instagram. ”

There is often a line, but it’s so worth the wait (plus, waiting in line for food is a quintessential Portland experience). The miniature size of their donuts are great for kids and if you go within 7 days of your birthday you get a FREE dozen donuts! Located about 2 miles south .”
