Tour Provider
“Lake District Adventures is based along the southern edge of picturesque lake Karapiro- half hour drive from the housewithnonails.. Take their Kayak Glow Work Tours. This is an adventure that starts late afternoon early evening at their base- paddle along the southern edge of Lake Kariprio, over the old submerged Horahora dam that produced electricity for the early Waihi Goldfields. Enjoy the twilight of silnce just being on the water as the day draws close. Night arrives and paddle slowly down the Pokaiwhenua stream and through the canyon carved out of water over many hundreds of years. Native ferns and trees drape over you and bird life is all around. Darkness falls and float silently back downstream letting the glow worms sparkle .”

Locality
“This quaint town known for The Dog, Sheep and Ram - huge corrugated iron shops, is full of great cafes, boutiques, outlet stores, gift and decor stores. It's a very pleasant place to shop. On the way to Tirau on SH5, is the Tirau Museum. Entry fee is minimal ($5 a couple of years ago) and the chap has collected everything from 1900's NZ iconic items to tractors, shop fronts from our towns and so much more. They also sell fresh honey from their own hives.”
