“A geological formation of mammoth rocks off the southwest coast in the Paphos district, this is one of the most breath taking natural sites on the island, associated with the goddess of love Aphrodite, the ancient Greek precursor of the Roman goddess Venus. It is here, by the Rock of Aphrodite, that the goddess arose from the foaming sea and was spirited away on a seashell. To this day, locals say that sometimes the waves break, swirl and rise up in columns of water that fall back and dissolve into sea foam, conjuring up shapes that assume human form.”

“This where Aprodite reportedly rose from the foams of the sea. Its a beautiful coastline in Cyprus on the main road from Limassol to Paphos. Don't forget your cameras and swim suits!”

“The Sanctuary of Aphrodite, the ruins of which lie not too far from Paphos in the village of Kouklia (the site of the former city-state of Paleo-Paphos), is one of the most important Antique shrines on the island, dedicated to the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. Although only several fragments of the groundwork and columns are left of the "100-halls" temple, it remains espeically spectacular and monumental in its proportions, emitting the unique, unrivalled atmosphere of an ancient sacred site.”

“Ruins of the medieval fortress of Saranta Kolones, which lie in close vicinity to Paphos’ port, are part of the Paphos District Archaeological Park, one of the most popular dig sites in Paphos. Once an important citadel that protected the ancient city from assailants, it currently recounts vast and eventful, centuries-old history of Paphos. The Saranta Kolones Castle (Forty Columns Castle) took its name from a large number of granite pillars placed all around it, which supposedly stood on an ancient trade square hundreds of years ago.”
