Museum
“It is really worth visiting. The architecture of the royal palace, the garden and the exhibitions (a collection of religious art and displays of Newari architecture) are amazing. Don’t forget to stop for /coffee or lunch at the museum’s restaurant (the beautiful garden in the 3rd courtyard of the museum). Your ticket also allows you the access to “Sundari Chowk and Mul chowk” (other entrance on Durbar Square - right side of the museum) ”

Temple
“Hiranya Varna Mahavihar (12th Century) is an important Buddhist temple in Nepal. There’s a golden roof and artifacts. The Golden Temple is especially nice in the early morning during prayer times, and on full moon nights.”

Grocery or Supermarket
“It feels a bit "plastic-y". We much prefer to encourage local businesses but sometimes big supermarket are handy... You will find lots of things from food to hardware. ”

Essen
“Honacha is the real Bara place! It’s been favored by the locals for 50 years and as such delivers proper Newari Food: "bara and egg barra" (lentils crepes), "alu" (potatoes), "kerao" (chickpeas), “ sekuwa” (cured meat)... Watch out, there’s no menu so just order a mix: ‘’Ali ali sabaï dinus”! Drink home-made Chang or Rakshi to go with (local rice alcohol) The place is located just behind Krishna Temple on Durbar Square . It’s a dark ground floor- part of the experience- or a small terrace on the 1st floor with a view on Durbar Square – Opened only during day time.”

Restaurant
“On Patan Durbar Square, nearby the waterspout and the school. The Nepali/Indian food is good. Go to the upper terrace for the view over the temples and the water spring. Frequented by tourists but also by a lot of Nepalese which is a good clue (compared to the very touristic Café du Temple nearby that does not serve quality food). Espresso Bar. ”

Restaurant
“A nice old Rana villa transformed into a restaurant. It is relatively hidden from the outside but once you enter, you discover a beautiful courtyard with comfortable seats, good food and cocktails. Entrance is on the left of Patan Dokha.”

Bed & Breakfast
“Café Swotha is is a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner at our doorstep! Fresh food, a revolving black board menu, small outdoor area, good wifi and very sweet and dedicated staff. The menu is mainly western but there’s also a very good Daal Bhat (Nepali Thali). ”

Café

“Owned and managed by the friendly Ruby, the place (a bit like a Berlins’ underground spot) is hidden in a tiny alley on the right hand side when going from Swotha Square to Durbar Square. Small black board menu only but everything Ruby serves is extra fresh and well prepared (always by him). Very cheap for the quality (between 150 npr and 300 npr). Good atmosphere, open kitchen, local clientele. ”

Sublocality Level 1
“I cannot recall the name of this typical Indian restaurant even though This is one of my best spot. Just near Patan Dhaka : Best Dosa (kind of pancakes from south India). This area as 2 momo restaurant. Cheap and tasty.”

Lodging
“Just behind Café Swotha. The Inn Patan is located in a Newari/ Rana house beautifully restored and converted into a b&b. The place is great for the beautiful courtyard where the restaurant is set (cold in winter). Food is okay but not to be compared with Café Swotha’s.”

Café
“You can find it 100 meters after passing Patan Dokha (on the way out of the old town), at the corner leading to Bhat Bhateni Supermarket (Krishna Galli). Enjoy freshly cooked wholesome food in a charming outdoor garden with a gazebo. Mini Library inside + Wifi ”

Park
“Convenient because it is the closest but it is more expensive than the Patan Dhoka station. Handy to go to the airport but not to go toward Kathmandu as taxis will have to make a big detour because of the one way road. ”

Essen
“Located in the garden of the museum (3rd courtyard), the café has a fabulous and peaceful location, inside a garden (very rare in Patan!) Go there for lunch or a drink after exploring Durbar Square or the museum. The food is pretty average but the setting is worth the trip. ”
