“This lovely place in Grandcamp is a real treat. It’s good for any group but particularly good value in terms of kids set menu. Food is consistently excellent and service is also very accommodating. You need to book in advance, it’s very popular. ”

“This Abbaye is about 25-30 mins away near La Lucerne-d'Outremer. It has some stunningly beautiful grounds with a 14th C moulin and an aqueduct. Church services are still held there. Reconstruction has been carried since 1959. The abbey was founded in 1143 by Hasculf de Subligny, son of Othoerne, the tutor of William Adelin, both of whom perished in the White Ship disaster of 1120, and later had the support of the English crown. The new monastery was settled from Dommartin Abbey near Hesdin. The foundation stone of the permanent buildings was laid in 1164 by Achard of St. Victor, who was later buried here. Construction lasted from 1164 to 1178 and was in the Romanesque style, in the restrained and sober manner of Cistercian architecture, except that the complex was dominated by an Anglo-Norman Gothic tower. La Lucerne was the mother-house of four other Premonstratensian monasteries: Ardenne Abbey, Mondaye Abbey and Belle-Étoile Abbey (at Cerisy-Belle-Étoile) in Normandy, and Beauport Abbey in Brittany. Major structural renovations were carried out in the 15th and 17th centuries. During the French Revolution, in 1792, the abbey was suppressed. Its buildings were at first turned into a cotton mill and then used as a source of stone. ”

“This is about an hours drive from Les Fieffes in Blainville but well worth it to be right by the sea in spring and summer months. It’s essentially a shabby chic sea side shack selling pub like fare but with French style (and the occasional singalong). Choices are basic but good quality (Moules Frites). Only a short drive up from here to Pointe D’Agon or Agon-Coutainville Resort to make part of highly enjoyable day out.”

“Viaduc de la Souleuvre, Souleuvre en Bocage, 14350 This is the place for adrenaline seekers….or those who love scenery and watching! Either way it’s stunning. There is a passenger train to take you down to the bottom or bring you back up if the walk is too much (peak season). Keep toddlers close as there are some steep drops along the paths. Here you can bungee jump from the viaduct, walk across on a rope bridge, swing through the trees in tandem, zip wire, ‘go ape’ or ride the luge….or just enjoy watching everyone else in beautiful scenery. The Luge is age 3years and over and there is a also bare foot nature walk ‘jardin pieds’ for toddlers and playground at the bottom surrounded by a lovely picnic area with toilets. The café here is very reasonably priced and the food is good. Check opening times. ”

“8 mn' 6 km by car Super-chef Olivier Roellinger’s sumptuous restaurant is housed in the impressive Château Richeux, 4km south of Cancale. Roellinger’s creations have earned him three Michelin stars (though he renounced them in 2008), and the food takes in the culinary highlights of Brittany and Normandy, all beautifully cooked and imaginatively served. Roellinger's son - Hugo - took over from his father in 2014 to focus on fish, vegetables and seaweed. Book well ahead. Sompteux restaurant du chef Olivier Roellinger, repris par son fils Hugo en 2014, qui le consacre désormais aux poissons et aux algues (pas de viande). Réserver à l'avance. ”
