Best things to do in Lincoln

Point of Interest
“A trip to Lincoln isn't complete without a visit to the Castle and it's historic grounds. Home of the 1215 Magna Carta (one of the only four surviving copies), the castle was constructed in the late 11th century by William the Conqueror on the site of a pre-existing Roman fortress. Enjoy a guided tour, wall walk or a trip to the Georgian and Victorian prison. We also recommend checking the Visit Lincoln website prior to your visit to see "what's on" - events such as open air cinemas, concerts and markets are held here throughout the year!”

“One of Europe's finest gothic cathedrals, once the tallest in the world, towers over the city and has stunning views from the rooftop. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower to take in the stunning 360 degree views of the surrounding area. We also recommend taking a walk to the cathedral at night time when the building is illuminated in golden lights - it's truly breath taking.”

“The nearest common to Northolme, West Common is a 15 minute walk downhill from the house. It's small but my favourite because horses roam on the common and it's a glorious spot to view the city and walk to the West End of the city through the greenery. ”

“The interiors, staff, music and drinks menu are 5 star. Open until 2am (I think!) you can find a mixed crowd with unusual ales and craft beers, cocktails to die for or a great selection of Gins. Grab a quieter time of day to get a table or take a trip down Steep Hill (it's at the bottom) during the more vibrant times at night. Great DJ playing music (no dance floor). It's a place to hang out at night but don't be intimidated if you are visiting it during the afternoon or early evening. A friendly relaxed bar. ”

“ "The Usher Gallery was officially opened on 25th May 1927 by the Prince of Wales and the new building was opened in October 2005 after much hard work including an archaeological excavation. Visitors can head to the auditorium where video or personal introductions to the museum or to education courses may be given; the education suite; the archaeological collection or the New Curtois Gallery, where touring exhibitions are housed. Below these last two, at the downhill end of the building, are the stores and workshops which service the whole." The Usher is just to the side of the cottage and is well worth a visit. ”
