“This park is in Downtown Houston. You can go cannoning on the small lake that is around it. In the winter time there is an outdoor ice-rink. Be sure to look up to see if any events are going on cause theres usually something taking place.”

“A Museum-district staple. In true Texas-style, it’s one of the largest museums in the US. The permanent collection spans over 6,000 years of history with 64,000 works of art. The Life of Vincent Van Gogh exhibit is open until the end of June – it’s fabulous! Check their website for fun events, like Mixed Media, which kicks off the opening of new exhibits with an evening cocktail celebration and early access to the exhibition. ”

“This is one of the few places you can see White Tigers in the US. Yes it is an aquarium with an amazing collection of fish, but they also have rides and games and play areas for the kids to play in the water. ”

“My favorite museum in Houston! It opened in 1987 to preserve and exhibit the collection of John and Dominique de Menil. Considered one of the most important privately assembled connections on the twentieth century, The Menil Collection is home to 17,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, and rare books. The museum also regularly offers special exhibitions and programs. And, admission is always free.”

“This museum has it all – a dinosaur hall, planetarium, IMAX theater, and butterfly exhibit. I’ve always enjoyed the gemstone collection. Parking can be a nightmare since the zoo is close-by. I’d Uber there instead.”

“Close to the museums and zoos, Hermann Park is great for out-of-towners. With the McGovern Centennial Gardens and Japanese Garden, you’ll have plenty of things to see. If you’re visiting with children, there’s a railroad (a staple of my childhood) that goes around the park as well as pedal boats for the lake. ”

“Situated in the lovely Hermann Park, the Houston Zoo is home to more than 4,500 animals and over 800 species. Experience a true wildlife adventure as you check out the lions, Komodo dragons, flamingos, tigers, gorillas, bears, and bats, just to name a few! There is a wonderful Natural Encounter area where you can get up close and personal with otters and meerkats; and be sure to take a spin on the Wildlife Carousel, featuring hand-carved and decorated animals that showcase many endangered species of the world. If watching the animals eat makes you hungry yourself, there are two outdoor concession stands and one indoor dining area. Get ready to spend a day with the animals as you learn more about the beauty and wonder of the natural world.”

“One of Houston’s most beloved cultural treasures, offering an eight-month season of professional, artistically-excellent and culturally diverse entertainment completely FREE of charge. Covered seating requires tickets; however, I (and many others) opt for the a picnic blanket and bottle of vino on the hill. Get there early; it gets crowded!”
