“Did you know that the practice of forestry in the United States began here in Western North Carolina? Visit the Cradle of Forestry for easy, enjoyable walks in the forest and guided tours where you can learn about what it takes to grow and maintain a healthy forest. You'll be amazed to compare the old photos of all the surrounding mountains completely bare of trees compared to the deep, rich forests surrounding us today. ”

“Graveyard Fields is a high-elevation valley that is home to stunning waterfalls, wildflowers and wild blueberries in spring and summer, and incredible views. There's a great 3.2 mile loop that highlights what this area has to offer. This is one of our favorite hiking spots, but we are not alone in this! Graveyard Fields is one of the most popular spots off this section of the parkway, therefore often very busy. Make sure you get there early, or go on a week day. ”

“Traverse grassy balds with epic views on this moderate hike. Trailhead located at mile marker 420 on Blue Ridge Parkway. In July and August, bring a bucket for blueberry picking. Pack a raincoat, though, it's not a mountain summer day without a quick thunderstorm. ”
