History Museum
“Hỏa Lò Prison (Vietnamese: [hwa᷉ː lɔ̂]) was a prison used by the French colonists in French Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. During this later period it was known to American POWs as the Hanoi Hilton. The prison was demolished during the 1990s, although the gatehouse remains as a museum.”

Theater
“The world-famous Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi has its roots in an art form that dates back to the 11th century. The tradition of water puppet theatre stems from a time when rice paddy fields were flooded and villagers would make entertainment by standing in the waist-deep water with the puppets performing over the water. Using large rods to support the puppets it appeared as if they were moving across the water with the puppeteers hidden behind a screen. ”

“"This excellent modern museum showcases the roles of women in Vietnamese society and culture. Labelled in English and French, it’s the memories of the wartime contribution by individual heroic women that are most poignant. If the glut of information sometimes feels repetitive, for visual stimulation there is a stunning collection of propaganda posters, as well as costumes, tribal basketware and fabric motifs from Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups. Check the website for special exhibitions." says Lonenly Planet. Too great, this museum is too close to walk to, next to the street.”

“A small pub with lively and romantic music every weekend. This pub was born since the US and Vietnam resumed normal relations in 1995. It was almost the first pub of Hanoi since the renovation. This is the place I occasionally go to talk to friends. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d4931772-Reviews-Polite_Co-Hanoi.html”

“Mad Botanist has the best vista of any cocktail bar we know in Hanoi - looking across St Joseph's Cathedral. It has a pretty good name too. These guys are gin specialists - there are over one hundred options and some interesting mixer ideas too. Afficionados might uncover a lack of consistency between pours of the same drop as we did. But we’re easily pleased and enjoyed a couple of nights of gin-fuelled conversation here. The name "Mad Botanist” sets a high bar for speakeasy cool that these guys are hopefully headed to. The large TV is an odd inclusion. To find Mad Botanist, head through the cafe entrance and up the stairs. It's in the heart of the Old Quarter. ”

“Opera opened in 2017 - it’s the latest arrival on Hanoi’s nightclub circuit and the most flamboyant and risqué we’ve spotted for a long time. Scantily clad European dancers, perched on platforms either side of the DJ, keep the mainly local crowd entertained. The DJ belts out a playlist of solid EDM. Pricing is higher than local bars but reasonable for a proper club. Opera’s located right by Hanoi’s famous beer corner and Ta Hien St so you’ll have plenty of other drinking and partying options nearby if it doesn’t take your fancy”
