“The historical Charlemont House (1908) is home to The Dublin City Gallery also known as the Hugh Lane after the Irish born art collector. He left two wills one bequeathing his entire collection firstly to the National Gallery in London and later to The Dublin City Gallery. So what this means to us is that 4 of its 8 masterpieces are in Dublin until 2021 : Les Parapluies by Renoir Eva Gonzales by Manet Jour d ete by Morisot and View of Louveciennes by Picasso Unmissable also are the bejeweled Harry Clarke Stained glass window display and the entire chaotic studio of Francis Bacon exactly as he left it. ”

“Montpelier Hill, better known as The Hellfire Club to Dubliners, is a lovely place for a weekend walk. It has a variety of short forest trails and provides wonderful views of the city from the south-west. On the weekends you can find it busy with urbanites escaping the city and dogs running free. At the top sits a large hunting lodge where, if the stories are to be believed, some very strange things have happened.”

Sandycove is the setting for many other places mentioned in the novel and an annual festival takes place in this area every year on Bloomsday, 16th June, the day of the year on which the 'day in the life of Leopold Bloom' took place.”

An estate of seventy-eight acres situated to the north-west of Dublin’s Phoenix Park, Farmleigh provides accommodation for visiting dignitaries and guests of the nation. “The grounds at Howth Castle are beautiful at all times of year. One of my favourite places to walk my dogs, whatever the weather! The castle itself is a private family home (the family have lived there for 600 years!) but they welcome walkers and visitors to walk the grounds. Wonderful views across North Dublin and the sea if you walk up past the Castle to the upper car park. For even better views take a short hike up through the Rhododendron trail up to the rocky outcrops above the estate which provide an almost 360 view of Dublin Bay and the city.”

“This beautiful round tower is built on the site of a monastery founded by St Mochua in the 7th century. It is one of only four remaining in County Dublin, the others are located in Swords, Lusk and Rathmichael. It stands over 90 foot high and is thought to be an early example as the granite on the lintels is flat. The most unusual feature of this tower is the very pronounced buttress at the base which is constructed with a different type of stone to the tower. The series of steps was believed to be added to the buttress in the late 19th century. There are 6 windows in the tower and the top 4 of them point north, south, east and west. The church of St John, on the opposite side of the road, h”

“Public library with a free Yeats Exhibition on the lower floor. Note: The National Gallery, The National Museum (Archaeology), The National Museum (Natural History- AKA "The Dead Zoo"), and the National Library are all in the same area, so it's worth covering them together. All are free of charge. The Dead Zoo is my personal favourite.”

“This is an iconic building started in 2009 and opened a few years later. While it was controversial to commence the construction of a library costing €40m in the middle of the recession, it has proved a huge success. The scale of the building is awe inspiring and the number of books lent there is staggering. A wonderful piece of modern architecture.”
