Best things to do in District of Columbia

“It's FREE! The Air and Space on the Mall is one of the best museums in the world! Some of the most important airplanes and rockets in history are located here and the movies and educational opportunities are among the best anywhere. It is almost always crowded so it is smart to hit it early before the crowds get there as the day progresses. ”

“ Not sure why it is being labeled as a library, but getting into the White House is only accessible through tours, which can be registered for online. However, if visitors would like to see the president’s residence from the outside, then it’s an easy walk down Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 15th St. NW and 17th St. NW. There, parties can take pictures with the White House in the backdrop and scream obscenities at, or praises for, Trump through the fence! ”

“Take the Metro to Judiciary Square (12 minutes) to visit the National Gallery of Art. Great views of downtown DC and the Mall from the new tower of the East Wing.”

“This is one of my favorite museums. Located in Chinatown and easily accessible off the Chinatown Metro, this is a Smithsonian museum that is free to go to with thousands of portraits and landscapes from different times and different subjects with a regular turnover of exhibits. There is something new to see every time you go. ”

“It's FREE! This is definitely one of the venues in DC that is well worth visiting. It is a little overwhelming to take it all in, but I would judge the 3 hours an average time to see the museum in its entirety. The history, significance and experience of the Holocaust Museum makes it a must see in my opinion ... least we forget. If you visit during the summer months you will need a reservation and they were booked about 3 weeks out when I tried to make a reservation so we thought we were going to miss it. However, each morning the day of they have a few scattered reservations and we were able to get 6 for 1:00 PM on a Sunday. The cost is $1 per person to book on line just to cover the cost of the reservation as the admission is free. They do have donation stations at several places in the museum which is worth considering to keep it running.”

“Not free, but an interactive experience that helps you understand the spy industry. The is a role-play interactive tour, and an amazing collection of spy artifacts. You might leave feeling a bit more paranoid that someone is watching you...because they are. ”

“ Another incredible, free-to-enter, art museum that is particularly interesting because it’s where the Smithsonian displays exhibits of modern artwork. Like the Renwick Gallery, the Hirshhorn Museum is on a rotating schedule of exhibits by modern and contemporary artists from all over the world. Probably the most well-known exhibit that was housed there relatively recently was Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s modern art series. It had some beautiful pieces, sculptures, interactive canvasses, and entire rooms with her art and artistic influence. On any given day, however, one can expect to be thoroughly entranced by the sometimes strange, yet always beautiful, art exhibits on display at the Hirshhorn.”

“My favorite installation is called The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly. It is called "America's greatest work of visionary art." I am always amazed by what I see. ”

“The Renwick Gallery is a small museum located close to the White House. It focuses on American craft and decorative arts from the 19th to the 21st century. Not a huge time commitment and always interesting! *Free Admission* ”
