“Darwin was one of the few places on the Australian mainland to be directly attacked by the Japanese during WW2, with 300 bombs being dropped on the city in February 1942. You can learn about the history of Darwin’s experience in the war in various significant sites around the city, as well as the highly informative Defence of Darwin Experience, the adjacent Darwin Military Museum, the Aviation Heritage Centre, and the Cenotaph overlooking Darwin Harbour.”

“Fannie Bay Gaol is a historic gaol in Darwin, Australia. The gaol operated as Her Majesty's Gaol and Labour Prison, from 20 September 1883 until 1 September 1979. The gallows remain on public view, and visitors can push the lever that operated the trap. The prison was damaged, along with much of Darwin, by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.”

“The Darwin Aviation Museum (formerly known as Australian Aviation Heritage Centre) is an accredited Northern Territory tourism attraction hosting 30,000 visitors each year. The Darwin Aviation Museum is the commercial arm of the Aviation Historical Society of the Northern Territory. The Society was established in December 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who sought to preserve aviation artefacts and World War II aircraft salvaged after the destruction resulting from Cyclone Tracy.”

“It's a little known fact that this library is open to the public, not just university students. If you have an eduroam account (most Australian universities and some overseas universities offer it) you can use their WiFi for free. Otherwise, you need to BYO. This library has excellent opening hours, especially during exam or end of semester periods. Much quieter than public libraries. Plenty of quiet study areas and the facilities, e.g. Toilets and water fountains, power points, are plentiful and well kept. There's vending machines downstairs and a cafe on site that is open during the day on weekdays.”
