Park
“526 acres of sheer goodness! Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (who also designed Central Park), Prospect Park opened in 1867 and is pretty much one of my favorites in the city. Its attractions include the Long Meadow, the Picnic House, Prospect Park Zoo, the Boathouse—and the Prospect Park Bandshell that hosts free outdoor concerts in the summer.”

When completed, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time, and the first in the United States to use steel cables instead of chains (the original was the Passerelle DE saint-antoine pedestrian bridge built by Marc Seguin in France in 1823). The Brooklyn bridge was named after a letter written to the Brooklyn Eagle on January 25, 1867, and adopted by the city in 1915. After the opening of the brooklyn bridge, it has become an indispensable part of the New York City skyline, and became a national historical landmark of the United States in 1964.
