A lovely and rustic island cottage with nice breezes and breathtaking views of the sea. A place to enjoy lazy days and slow way down. The cottage sleeps four people and is one large airy room. To reach the house from where the boat drops you off on the coast is a 10-minute uphill walk on a footpath. We use a modernized latrine and an outdoor shower, which we know is not everyone's cup of tea. From the cottage it is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the beach. Come and explore!

Die Unterkunft
The house is unique and fabulous due to it's open and airy layout and it's fantastic views of the sea. The house sleeps four people. The layout of the house is one large open room with a detached outdoor shower, kitchen and modern latrine. The sleeping and dining area is one large open studio space so there is not much privacy. Large curtains can be drawn to divide the sleeping areas but definitely do not come with people you don’t want to see you in your pajamas! There is no flush toilet at the house. To get to the latrine one must walk up a small hill that is behind the house. Fresh water is scarce on the island so a latrine was the most ecological/resource-responsible option. The latrine, however, is clean and has a toilet seat – not to mention a truly amazing view!! Go to the photo section - a photo is indeed worth a million words.

Zugang für Gäste
During your stay you have exclusive access to the entire house and kitchen.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
The only electricity at the house is a small battery pack sufficient for charging a telephone, a portable speaker or other small electronics. Upon request Salnave Vitale, the caretaker of the house, can charge a laptop for you. We use gas lamps or solar lights. There is cellular coverage at the house for both Digicel and Natcom phones. There is no wireless internet connection at the house. To use the internet you can create your own hot-spot or go to hotels in the area.

The boat captain, the women who prepares meals at the house and the guides for the excursions are all independent entrepreneurs, which is a nice way to share the benefits of having visitors on the island with the local community.

For meals one can:
1. Cook for oneself. If you plan to cook you will have to bring the ingredients you need with you because there is not a daily market on the island. The open-air market in Madame Bernard is a 2-hour walk one-way or you can take a motorcycle for 75 HTG. The market days are: Monday and Thursday. There are basic cooking utensils available in the kitchen but it certainly is not equipped for preparing haut-cuisine.

2. Make reservations to eat at the various other hotels on the island. Prices range from $15 to $40 USD. It is best to make reservations 24 hrs. in advance because the restaurants buy the seafood each day. If you don't reserve in advance they may not have purchased the seafood.

3. Have meals at the cottage prepared by Shela Cabral. Shela can cook the meals at the cottage’s kitchen or if you want more privacy she can cook at her house and deliver the meals at an agreed upon time. She will also return to clean up after the meals. These are served family style so please choose one option for the group. The meal prices are per person. If there is something you would like to eat and it is not listed below you can request it and we will let you know if it is possible.

Cold drinks - You can get cold drinks at all of the hotels or at the Community Center. The Community Center is located at the bottom of the hill below the house; you walk by it to get to the house. The Community Center has the best prices for beer and soft drinks.

Lage

Isle a Vache, South, Haiti

Ile La Vache is 30 to 40 minutes off the coast of Les Cayes. Les Cayes is 4hrs from Port Au Prince.

The island of Ile á Vache is a place to slow down and enjoy lazy tropical days alone or with family and friends. Come to watch the sunrise over the ocean, read, meditate, breath, swim, sail, walk and explore a beautiful place. There are no cars on the island but you can walk all over the Island or explore by boat; treks and boating excursions can be catered to your interests upon arrival - birds, agriculture, markets, beaches...

The house is located on the outskirts of a sleepy village called Kay Kok. To reach the house from where the boat drops you off on the coast is a 10-minute uphill walk on a footpath.

From the house it is 15 minute walk to the L’Anse a Lea Beach, which is long, natural and sandy. The Maison L’Anse a L'eau Beach House (B&B) has a bungalow on the beach that is often left unattended but one can walk up to the house to request a cold drink or snack. It is also a 15-minute walk to the beach that is associated with the Hotel Port Morgan, this beach does not have great sand but it has a rock island off of it that is fun to swim around with a mask and snorkel. It is a 15 to 20 -minute walk to the Anse du Four beach, which is a beautiful sandy beach. Here you can either settle near the Abaka Bay resort for easy access to cold drinks or go to the other end of the beach which is totally quiet and undeveloped.
