LLANGWYLLYM is a SPECTACULAR RETREAT set on 1/3 mile of shoreline + 40 acres of forest. Off-grid. Natural. Put your electronics away! Experience sleeping without EMFs. Outdoor shower (cold water) and toilet. Perfect for families, couples, artists, bbq lovers, hikers.

Die Unterkunft
'Log Cabin' has large decks, 4 small bedrooms, kitchen with 2 burner stovetop (propane) and large food prep area. We have running water from well. (You bring your own drinking water and ice) Main room is 2 story with wood stove and dining table that seats 4 comfortably but possibly 6. (This round table becomes the main gathering place). Large couch and easy chair. Creative cooks can stick to the 2-burner propane stove or use the wood stove or outdoor fire pits for all day soups, etc. There are 2 coolers (large one kept on deck and small one inside). SMALL FRIDGE now. Top 2 bedrooms are open to the large room below and include a double futon each - ON FLOOR. Gardens include herbs and (hopefully) tomatos for your meals and teas.

People often also rent 'expedition hut' which is on other side of community firepit. It is lined with silvered barnboard and has 1 double sofa bed, writing table, tiny wood stove, small deck. Very simple cooking and washup is provided. Couples and kids love it.

There is a third rental (the owner's studio) 'The Hexagon' which is about 100 feet along edge of forest but you'll have lots of separation should it be in use.

Zugang für Gäste
Well-kept cottage road into cabin.

• best fish and chips are nearby in Providence Bay
• visit marina
• meet one of our elders, Blair Sullivan, (WWII veteran) who visits occasionally
bike ride (we have 3 simple bikes and an air pump, but no guarantees!)
• play Monopoly
• investigate our books
• do nothing, just listen!
• collect birch-bark for excellent fire-starter (lots on ground in forest - never pull from living tree!)

SWIMMING
Shoreline is beautiful limestone plains and some bouldered areas straight out -
and you can swim out from there once you're deep enough - use watershoes, very slippery. We like swimming from point especially on left side when looking out (have to walk over rocks to get there) and the dropoff is deeper. There is also a great sandy beach (public) in nearby Providence Bay.

COOKING
Many a wonderful meal has been made here in our simple cabin.
FRESH HERBS available in garden - usually chives, basil, thyme, sage, lavender

IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO LOVES WORKING WHEREVER YOU ARE
You are always welcome to use your own good judgement and improve things, work in garden, water plants, chop wood, collect kindling, make stone paths, care for the earth.
Kids: we always need more kindling! grab a basket or a bucket, fill it with sticks, then put in woodshed

SAFETY
PLEASE SHOW EVERYONE WHERE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS (wall by door)
FIRST AID KIT on shelf above kitchen

RECYCLING + GARBAGE
Containers provided, Becky will take away at end (but it is REALLY appreciated if you can take some away with you off-island). No compost garbage currently. We are very careful not to leave animal-attracting foods around.

DOGS
Use towels and blankets to keep floor and furniture clean. Guide your dog in treating our fellow creatures with respect. Also, please clean up dog poop before you leave.

OUTDOOR TOILET
This is just a holding tank - it does NOT go into ground. It is pumped out regularly and goes into public septic system. If you would like it pumped out while you are there, ask Becky. Please place ‘biodegradable’ hands-wipes in container provided, NOT in toilet.

WATER
DRINKING - bring your own, refill jugs at FOODLAND
STEEL SINK IN KITCHEN DRAINS BUT HAS NO WATER RUNNING INTO
CONTAINERS ON PORCH are from the well, use for everything
RAINBARREL WATER use this too, especially for vegetable/herb garden if you see it getting dry

2-BURNER PROPANE STOVETOP
Use like a normal stove for cooking and boiling water.
TO CHANGE PROPANE CANNISTER: when you run out of propane it just stops working. twist off old container and twist on new one (in cupboard)
Stovetop is not as hardy as a normal kitchen stove so be gentle with it. Metal gets very hot!

WOOD-STOVE
If you keep kettle on top filled with water, you have that magical thing called ‘hot water’ always handy. II you are a creative chef, we have a casserole dish and a trivet stand that can go inside the wood-stove. - More firewood and kindling in shed just outside, or collect your own kindling.
DAMPER you can control burning speed by adjusting metal rod sticking out of stovefront.
ASHES: Becky will clean ashes out at end. If you clean them out, let sit for day or dowse with lots of water. Embers last surprisingly long. We dispose of behind outhouse.

TWO FIREPITS
hotdogs, marshmallows, all-day soups! These should only be used when no wind at all and never left alone! Dowse with water at end of evening. Lots of buckets around.

WASHING BODIES (lots of facecloths around!)
OUTDOOR SHOWER (pumped from well, warmed by sun)
LARGE BOWLS/BUCKETS for sponge baths (be creative!) washing by firelight is a favourite!
COWBOY BATHTUB outside - you can keep your boots on

IF YOU NEED MORE WATER
Use pump house beside cabin. It is simply a little motor that draws from underground water-table. Open small side door to start motor with pull cord (start with choke on)
TO FILL SHOWER - you’ll see one hose heading to the shower — open it (unless already open) and just let it run to fill shower. it splashes out the top when full (takes 45 minutes if empty)
TO FILL BUCKETS - you’ll see a 2nd hose that is short and used to fill water buckets. open it with the lever on the hose. This is a good time to take a bath, since you’ll probably get soaked until you develop your technique

FOREST
Path to forest is behind expedition hut. If you ever get lost in forest (aka ‘an adventure’) just follow the sound of water or cars and you’ll reach civilization. You're never far.

BUGS
All windows/doors screened. Keeping curtains to bedrooms closed in day helps keep bugs out

SOLAR
Just press ‘on’ button on small unit by sink and plug-in lamp or device. When out of power, it beeps

SMOKING
outdoors only and put butts in a jar, never on ground

I treasure the places on this planet where we can really feel its beauty. This is one of them and the energy here is very powerful and healing. Beyond that, just a great place to have fun and explore. I am a nature lover and a travel writer with a bent for the sciences and painting. I use the hexagon studio here for painting but am often travelling. FYI - if you are handy and would like to contribute to the land stewardship, chop kindling, repair, create, trade your expertise on the natural sciences, etc. I am open to bartering for an extra day or so.
