We are offering a SPECIAL DISCOUNT for the holidays - December 21st to January 4th. Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to stay at the fabled House of Collection. As featured in the New York Times in May of 2011 ("A Live in Cabinet of Curiousities") as well as various short films & music videos (one of our favorites is Amanda Palmer's "What's the Use of Won'drin")
A special note to prospective guests:
We leave our weekends marked as 'available' due to our variable weekend schedule. Sometimes we go upstate for the weekend and sometimes we are here at the house. Please let us know your preference when messaging us and we'll let you know what our plans are, and we can move forward from there.
Also, if you have a period of time longer than a weekend in mind, feel free to contact us about potentially booking, even if the place is marked as 'unavailable'.
We generally ask the same rate for stays where we are present and hosting, as for periods when we are away.
The Birch Loft, where you will be sleeping if you are an individual or a couple, overlooks our public spaces: the kitchen, garden, living room and dance space. This is not a home that offers a lot of privacy, except the lavatory, so please keep that in mind if you are planning to come stay as a group.
Another special note: We have two marvelous and sweet kittens who live here with us. We may ask you to feed & care for them during your stay, please let us know your preferences about their presence.
Also: We cannot accommodate pets beyond our own.
All that said, on to describing the space:
This eccentric & aesthetically rich artists loft is a bit of Williamsburg history. Established in 1989, it features an array of oddities both diverse & prodigious. From the walls of antique tools & implements, to the antique, vintage & hand-crafted furniture, art, taxidermy & collections of collections, it is a NY experience not to be missed.
The incredible decor is complimented by a full wall of south facing windows & a sitting loft, with wicker sofa, brimful of plants, known as "The Garden Platform" (tended by a friendly neighbor a couple times a week).
The sunny, spacious living room area has a big red velvet couch, a throne, fainting couch & numerous comfy chairs & nooks to nestle in, as well as large low coffee table.
The back section of the loft has a full wall of mirrors & is great for stretching, dancing or working out. Highlighted by a collection of antique cash registers, & other neat stuff, with a ceiling & wall of beautiful reclaimed tin.
The lavatory has a river stone floor (stones from fairyland, for real!), a beautiful claw foot tub with a copper shower enclosure as well as a washer & dryer.
The "Birch Bed" sleeping loft has a brand new double bed, some shelving space, a clock & a fan. It has visual privacy and is a bit like a tree house perched over the main space of the loft where the kitchen and living room are.
The Conservatory, which is just off the main room through big double doors, functions as a library, music room & additional sleeping space. It can accommodate one full size foam mattress or airbed (which sleeps two) as well as a single futon, both of which we have on hand and a comfy sofa (which can sleep one). This room sleeps 4 people total. Here you will also find a 1913 Chickering Standup Piano and and a gallery of art work and family portraits, and a lot of really good books.
The kitchen is equipped with full electric range, oven, toaster & toaster oven. microwave, vintage blender, cuisinart, fridge with modestly sized freezer, a grinder & french press for coffee-making, cookware, flatware, dinnerware etc., with a small table comfortably seating 4.
Sheets & Towels provided, but don't expect them to match! :-) Hanging space for clothing is also available.
There is a house stereo setup, with CD player & audio input for an iPod or other device. We do not have cable, but we have a 17" monitor with multiple adapters available for use with your computer.
WiFi is strong throughout the house.
The loft is 1500sf with 12ft ceilings and is located on Berry Street 1 block from Bedford Avenue (where you can find a vast array of shopping and restaurants); 2 blocks from the East River, upon which there are a number of pretty parks, as well as two different stops on the East River Ferry (Which we highly recommend a trip on, perhaps down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park?); We are two blocks from the Williamsburg Bridge, across which you can get to Manhattan in 20 minutes on foot, or 10 minutes by bike or car (cabs can be flagged down in the neighborhood). We are also easy walking distance from the Bedford stop on the L train & the Marcy stop on the J,M, & Z trains and are 1 subway stop from Manhattan.
This is not a space we can recommend for folks with small children along, as there are many fragile things, as well as sharp pokeys.
Also, unfortunately, no pets.
We just adopted two kittens and they will be in the house if we are present during your stay. Check with us if it's a concern.
We are not currently up for the House of Collection hosting large gatherings while we are in absentia. That being said, this is a wonderful place to have a few friends over for a nice dinner or a couple of drinks & some music making, so feel free!
Also please note that we are a smoker friendly household, though we do have an industrial air filter & lots of fans.

My stay at Paige & Ahnika's place was nothing other than magical. From the minute I walked in, I felt welcomed, not only by Paige and her warmth, but by the Love of their home itself. I felt held and surrounded by wonderfulness. Here's the funny thing, here I am, in the middle of Brooklyn, I could have gone all over the place, eaten in all kinds of restaurants (which are wonderful and within walking distance, like two seconds walking), but I somehow couldn't find myself wanting to leave their Apartment. I cooked each night, washed my dishes in the old farmhouse sink, slept in the wonderful sleeping loft (after falling asleep on the couch). Need I say more? I am a writer / artist and wrote and daydreamed and hung out with their wonderful kitties, and was nurtured the entire time. The place itself is one of the most amazing places I've ever been, unending inspiration. If you're looking for a magical experience, or even just a very very cozy place, stay here. You'll not regret.
Wow, what an experience. Staying at Paige & Ahnika's place was awesome. Unfortunately, I never got to meet Paige, but Ahnika was a most gracious and helpful host. I let them know beforehand that I have a severe cat allergy, and they made sure the entire place was spotless when I got in. The garden area is very peaceful, and there's a fantastic view. This place is better than the listing makes it out to be. Only downsides to the place are that it can get a little hot if you don't use the fans/ air conditioner generously, but that's not a big deal if you don't plan on spending 100% of your time in the apartment. Also, the shower is a little inconsistent as far as finding the right temperature, however, yet again. Not a big deal.
I produce music, and came to this place knowing I had a lot on my plate. I found the environment to be inspirational, and great for those people that might need a place to work or just relax. I would definitely stay here again.
Definitely the most memorable (in a good way) place we've ever stayed. Great location: in the heart of a fun district and only a few blocks to the Williamsburg bridge into Manhattan.
Paige & Ahnika were very accommodating hosts, who went out of their way to help us (even when our flight itinerary changed and we showed up with a last minute guest).
Thanks so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home.
The photos of The House of Collection (although amazing!) don't do it justice - it's far more welcoming, comfortable, spacious (it's huge, full of nooks and crannies and great places to hide) and accessible than it might appear. My daughter and I stayed here for four nights and felt immediately at home - we could have happily moved in! If you're creative, you'll love the atmosphere/vibe - we managed to get tons of work done (we're writers) while exploring the city and the great restaurants and vintage stores that are a short walk away. The only downside is that you'd need at least a year to check out every detail in the space. Paige and Ahnika are extraordinary people and excellent hosts - happy to shoot the shit when you're in the mood, but unobtrusive when you're not. If they're around when you stay, it's worth it just to get the opportunity to hang out with them! Highly recommended, will be back!
My friends and I had such a great time! We came in for a friend's birthday and picked the place because she is a designer/landscape architect/quirky cute person, and we knew it'd be perfect for her.
We got in Friday night and left Sunday afternoon. The space was great as a rendezvous point as we prepared for our day around NY. We cooked breakfast in the mornings, and had lots of room to relax while people showered and such. The bedford stop is a lovely walk away and then you're only a stop away from Manhattan.
If you're into unique spaces, I can't imagine a better one. As designers, we were definitely in awe of how wonderful the space was laid out, the pick of furnishings, and the curation of objects and collections.
Paige and Ahnika were the sweetest and warmest people, and I felt very comfortable with them. This place is truly a gem, and I will recommend it to everyone who goes to NY.
Paige and Ahnika were so amazing and lovely! Their place was absolutely magical and a perfect space for my friends to come and celebrate my bday. They were very gracious hosts, and made me feel at home and welcome. You will never come across a more unique space that is unforgettable! Everyone who came to the loft said how much fun they had and couldn't stop talking about how interesting the space was. It really is one of those funky NY places that is cool and homey. We stayed 2 nights and I'm so glad that they let me experience such a wonderful stay!
You won't be sorry if you choose to stay with these two wonderful hosts!!
Thanks again you guys!
Paige and Ahnika's apartment isn't for everyone - thankfully.
We are rather torn between keeping it a secret and telling everyone about it. I doubt there is anything else like it. A very personal, artistic work in progress. Fabulous.
It is very, very conveniently located, spacious, dramatic and they are lovely people.
For those with an eccentric, artistic, creative, bent and for crazy collector types, it can't be beaten
