Hello, we are Alejandro and Karin, we built a tiny house on a piece of land Alejandro inherited by his grandparents. It is wooden, modern, minimalist studio house of 28 m2, designed by our friends at Tatu Arquitects . It has lots of windows, so beautiful views all around. We wanted to feel almost outside when inside. One of the windows looks to the Pan de Azucar, which at almost 400 meters, one of the highest mountains in the whole of Uruguay : ) We moved to France for work, so haven’t been using it much, hence we thought it may be great to rent it out on Airbnb. Ale's brother Marcelo lives on the land next to ours, and will be there to welcome you, if we are not around.
Interior
The interior consists of an open space kitchen & living room, the sleeping area is on a mezzanine. The bathroom and toilet are connected to the house, but you have to enter through a different door, so you have to go outside (10 steps) - we think this is brilliant, more privacy and a good excuse to stargaze at night. The house is set up for two people, but the sofa is convertible in case you need another bed.
Exterior
The house is located on 1ha of land, full of natural of chircas (native bushes). We are haven’t had the time to manage the landscaping around the house yet. So expect it to be a wild, we do make sure there are paths across the 1ha if you want to take a short stroll. There is a patio attached to the house.
Location
It is in the countryside. It is very close to the tree nursery Laguna de Chaja, 5 km from Punta Negra beach and 1 kilometre from the lagoon called Laguna del Sauce, and 20 minutes from Punta del Este. There are some houses on nearby pieces of land, inhabited by family members, there is a gate that closes at night, so if you arrive then Nacho will open it for you.
* Beaches - The nearest beach is 5 kilometres away, called Punta Negra. It is a wild beach with few people as its not as kid friendly as some of the other nearby beaches.
* Beach towns – Uruguay’s most famous beach town, Punta del Este, is a 20 minute drive away. Other nearby beach towns include Piriapolis, Punta Ballena.
* Super markets - there are a number of supermarkets within a 3 to 10 km range, in Pan de Azucar, la Capuera and Piriapolis.
Moving around
You probably want to have a car to be able to move around the area. There is an informal busstop at the entry gate about a kilometre from the house, but you need to be quite skilled to be able to flag the bus down, and the official busstop is a couple of kilometers away.
Eco features
• We collect rainwater in two large tanks under the house, which provide the house with water. So you can’t drink from the tap. If it runs dry, Marcelo, can top it up with fresh well water.
• Please use non-toxic cleaning products and bathroom products as the water from the house is caught at the bottom of the land and used for watering the land.
Tall people
• The mezzanine does not allow you to stand straight, a bit of flexibility is needed and probably not great if you are very tall.
We are new to renting out our house on Airbnb, hence we have put the rental price below similar houses in the region. We would really appreciate honest feedback during/after your stay on how we can improve the experience
