Our home is a charming Victorian 3 bedroom / 3 bath house in downtown Santa Barbara. This recently remodeled home has one large double bedroom upstairs with a heavy curtain divider, nice views and a balcony, a bathroom and an open office area. When the curtain is closed it's two separate bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other a twin, each with its own door. Great for families. A twin foam mattress, queen air bed and fold-up cot are also available for placement on the floor to accommodate more than 7 guests.
Downstairs is an open layout living/dining/kitchen with bath, the master bedroom with full Jacuzzi tub bath and the parlor / front room with a queen-sized pull-out sofa bed which can be closed off from the rest of the downstairs to serve as a 3rd (or 4th) bedroom. Hundred year old hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and bay windows, remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Fully furnished, wireless internet, cable TV and utilities included. Use of bikes and surfboards also included. We share the lovely enclosed backyard with pond, patio, barbecue, grapevine arbor for shade and corner bench under the avocado tree. Pets could be OK -- need to discuss and make a special offer to include $25/night pet fee.
Guests have access to bikes, surfboards, boogie boards, backyard and barbecue.
We love to interact with our guests, as much or as little as they prefer.
If you run out of eggs or need more cream for your coffee the neighborhood market is just across the street. There are two beautiful parks, one with the fantastic "Kid's World" playground, within 5 blocks.
It’s a 5 minute walk to the Arlington Theater and the downtown State St. shops and restaurants (Sushi, Greek, italian, California Nouveau cuisine), a 15 minute ride to the Old Mission, beach, harbor or pier by bike or to UCSB by express bus. Bus stops just around the corner. Off-street parking is available for 1 car. The driveway is shared with the renters in the other house on our property. Please park far enough forward along the left side so that there's room for another car to park on the right. For short periods (loading and unloading) you can use the whole driveway (space for 3 cars). Parking is allowed on the street right in from of the house and there's usually no problem finding a spot.
Recycling - we do have a separate container for these items. It's a white woven basket next to the back door.
Please, no smoking anywhere on the premises.
We're located in a quiet residential neighborhood, so note that this is not the place for wild parties -- no excessive alcohol consumption or dance volume music after 11 pm, please.
We would appreciate your taking off your shoes in the house to preserve the floor -- it scratches easily, especially from beach sand.
The master bath is primarily for bathing and its wooden floor is not waterproof! If you use the hand shower please be careful and make sure to dry the floor. For showering please use the other bathrooms.
Host was at home when I arrived at 3 pm. Leo showed me around the house and he and his wife gathered their things and were gone by about 4 pm for the weekend. There were 9 women in all and while I was a bit concerned about the coziness of the home upon arrival, there ended up being enough room for all. We set up a queen air mattress in large upstairs bedroom and there was plenty of room to move around. There are three bathrooms which provided plenty of space for the 9 women. The highlight is the kitchen space which opens on to the patio for a true indoor/outdoor living experience. The location is close to downtown and we were able to walk to anywhere we needed to go (coffee, lunch, dinner, etc.)
Had a great time staying here. House feels spacious with high ceilings and several separate spaces inside and out that a family can spread across and not feel on top on each other, but the open plan kitchen, dining and living space is big enough for everyone to come together when wanted. Leo was great, very helpful and considerate, even found a huge basket of duplo blocks for our children to play with! Would recommend to others and also stay again.
Leo was great in that he was accommodating to our time of arrival and needs, and was responsive when I had questions leading up to the trip, as well as once we were there. The place was adorable and clean when we arrived. The only thing to note was that they have a cat who is around so if you have a fear or allergies to cats, you may want to see if they could not have the cat there during your stay. Great location to State Street which was nice - walking distance to tons of shops and restaurants.
Leo and Daniela have been very friendly Hosts.
They awaited us on the arrival the day, and showed us around.
The House was not as you would think from the description "newly renovated". Tough the Master Bed & Bathroom seems to be new.
It was not as clean as expected, and over all it has no 3rd Bedroom. All Seating Furniture show stain and the rental probably is lacking a professional cleaning service.
Leo's house is in a great location, distance to State street and in a beautiful historic neighborhood. We took the train in, and he even gave us a ride from the train station (a mile away). The house is beautiful, and the kitchen is connected to the back yard, which is great since the weather is always nice in Santa Barbara. We were in town for a wedding and there was plenty of room for a large group of our friends (7 people) to comfortably stay for two nights.
Leo was responsive and helpful, including coming right over to fix something when we reported a very small problem. He accommodated our quirks and provided a local's perspective on where to eat and what to do.

A native of Santa Barbara, after getting a degree from UCSB in ECE, I worked as an engineer in the Silicon Valley for a number of years before moving to Germany, where I lived for 8 years before returning to Santa Barbara. I met my wife, Daniela, in Germany and our daughter was born there. I currently teach ESL at Santa Barbara City College and my wife teaches German at Westmont College. Our daughter is now starting high school and we also have a son going into 5th grade. We love to travel to experience other cultures and the wonders of nature. Some of our most memorable recent trips were 3 weeks backpacking through the Yucatan Peninsula and another 4 weeks taking our VW camper up to Yellowstone and back.
