- Matlock Park - lawns, picnics, play areas
- Railway/bus station

With generous check-in and out times, it's a perfect base for hiking, celebrating, working if necessary, and relaxing.

Die Unterkunft
The living room, kitchen and bedrooms are indulgently large, and since the place is used on and off as a family home, it is fully stocked for actual living.

The main bits:

INTERNAL STAIRCASE
The first space you see. An industrial storage space, the walls of which now make up possibly the world's biggest guestbook. A rainy-day activity for budding artists; you can start designing your brick as soon as you arrive. Paint and brushes provided.

BOOT ROOM
Lots of hooks and shoe racks for all of your coats and boots. Also a tumble dryer.

KITCHEN
Big! Aspiring chefs love it. It has the basics and more, including:
- Rangemaster Professional+ five-burner range and double oven
- Probably half of Sainsbury's range of herbs and spices
- Neff dishwasher and washing machine
- Wine fridge. Slightly ridiculous unless you have 6+ thirsty people...
- At least three coffee types for the cafetiere and two teas for the pot.
- Milk frother, a proper one.
- A big old microwave
- Four-slice toaster
- A slow cooker. Crazy.
- Loads of wine glasses, beer glasses, tumblers. You get the picture.
- Lots of other stuff. I live here half of the year...

DINING ROOM
A cozy space for eight. Dimmable lights. Different artwork. The room is a work in progress; the walls may be lush new colours by the time you arrive.

LIVING ROOM
Big! My niece does cartwheels down it.
- Sofas, chairs, bean bags etc.
- Cinematic TV system with Firestick and surround speakers .
- Audiophile sound system to Bluetooth to your phone and its playlists. There are no neighbours so your AC/DC obsession is safe.
- Lights all over the place.
- Books and board games for all tastes.
- An upmarket, many-fingered massage chair. Enjoy.

THE TWO BATHROOMS
Both have a drenching overhead shower, shampoo, conditioner, soap, sink, plenty of hooks, places for your toothbrushes etc, and a door lock. Sorry no baths, yet.
The towels are nice.

THE FOUR BEDROOMS
The smallest bedroom is a comfortable double. The largest could be a bowling alley. Each has at least:
- A properly comfortable bed, nice sheets, pillows, duvets
- Plenty of hanging space and coathangers
- Chest of drawers
- Bedside tables and lamps

DOGS
I welcome dogs with well-behaved owners. In the Entrance Stairwell there are dog bowls and poo-bags for you to use. The standard walk is around Hall Leys Park, three minutes away. Or you can take them up Kinder Scout - your call.

TENNIS and PING-PONG
The Park has tennis courts and table-tennis tables that are open year-round, free to use, and usually available. We have bats, rackets and balls for you in the Entrance Stairwell.

YOUR BICYCLES
There are plenty of places under the exterior stairs where you can secure your bikes, so you don't have to carry them up to the House. The Peak District is *made* for cycling. Look up the Peak District National Park website for details.

We are on Matlock's main shopping, eating and quaffing street: Dale Road. It's lively and interesting... but at the same time, in two minutes you can find yourself on a field surrounded by sheep and donkeys with a beautiful view over the town and the cliffs of High Tor.

Most things you need are in short walking distance, from the big Sainsbury's to the M&S Food Hall, to a prolific range of antique shops, pubs and eateries.

In easy striking distance are:
- An upmarket wine bar at the base of the building (due to open in June)
- Genuinely good Indian, Thai, Chinese (takeaway) and contemporary restaurants
- The easy path up to the sheer cliffs of High Tor and beyond
- The boundary of the Peak District (one mile away) and its wonders
- Matlock Bath's cablecar, Gulliver's Kingdom and 11 fish 'n' chip shops
- Several cycle paths along old railway tracks
- Quaint Bakewell with its puddings, tarts and outdoorsy shops
- Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall...
- The world's first ever factory and its oldest working factory
- Countless great pubs


Within 30-45 minutes' drive are:
- Beautiful Buxton
- All corners of the Peak District
- Alton Towers
- Among a hundred other places...
