Die Unterkunft
Aurora Loft is ideal for two people, but could fit three as there's a couch in the living room. The bedromm has a view to a small private patio also connecting to the bathroom's shower. The small patio shows the original adobe walls of this unique colonial house. Our guests will enjoy the loft just for themselves. The relaxing pool is in a shared roof garden in the third floor of the house. This common space is shared with guests of other lofts in Casa 3 Pilares. Please be aware we don't count with a lift to climb up to the third floor. This is an ideal place to both retreat and rest enjoying the view of the beautiful patios and colonial architecture and to explore the city centre, its neighbourhoods, local foods, museums and architectural heritage. It is also a quiet, comfortable and stylish space for home office.

Loft Aurora is located at the heart of the historic city centre of Guadalajara. Therefore, one could walk to eat local foods to historic "barrios" such as Mexicaltzingo, an ancient indigenous town colonized at the foundation of the city. "El barrio de Mexicaltingo" still conserves its original colonial church that faces a recently renovated plaza. There you can enjoy the traditional "nieve de garrafa" made of fruits of the season, a speciality of the city. You could also walk to "El barrio de Las 9 esquinas", and enjoy a delicious "birria" in one of the many local restaurants where local people go out to eat during the weekends. A few streets away north you will find the traditional "Café Madoka". This café is an historical site that maintains its original look and visitors. Old men still gather to smoke and play domino in the back. Traditional breakfasts such as chilaquiles rojos o verdes are well served. And coffee is good here. In Mexico street food is part of the every day life, and in the city centre you will be able to discover it everywhere.

Among some cultural heritage highlights that you shouldn't miss are:
Centro Cultural Cabañas/Cabañas Hospice (also listed in the UNESCO's world heritage list). Be sure not to miss one of Orozco's most famous frescoes "The Man on fire", located in the roof ot the chapelle at the centre of this hospice. José Clemente Orozco, specialized in political murals that established the Mexican Mural Renaissance together with murals by Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and others. Orozco was the most complex of the Mexican muralists, fond of the theme of human suffering, but less realistic and more fascinated by machines than Rivera. Mostly influenced by Symbolism, he was also a genre painter and lithographer.

Other two public buildings conserve Orozco's murals: in El Palacio de Gobierno/The Government Palace, near the cathedral. “The People and Its Leaders” mural is found above the main staircase and depicts the revolutionary leader wielding a flaming torch to ignite the independence movement. Hidalgo is celebrated in a second mural in the building’s Chamber of Deputies, where he frees Mexico’s slaves by signing the word “freedom” – albeit with a deep, blood red that suggests the human cost of this breakthrough. To find el Palacio de Gobierno look for this address: Ramón Corona 31, Zona Centro, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

The third building where you can admire Orozco's work is in el Paraninfo Enrique Díaz de León de la Universidad de Guadalajara, and enjoyable 25 minutes walk from Loft Aurora. This site is also a free museum that holds temporary exhibits. You can check out the opening hours in its site

The Mercado de San Juan de Dios is a popular market next to the Hospice Cabañas. You can plan a day trip to visit the museum inside the Hospice, admire Orozco's frescoes, and then walk out to the vibrant popular market life where your senses will explote. There you can find all sort of local artisanal products such as baskets, or traditional footware such as huaraches (be sure not to buy the chinesse replicas). If you feel adventurous, find the floor of food and choose what to feel like eating. You will find all sorts of traditional popular mexican food, alongside sushi places. This place is one of my favourites to eat. I visit often a place call Rosita, where I find the descendats of a japanese woman that prepare the most delicious "caldo michi" fish soup, that could be served with tortillas and a spicy mexican sauce.

Soy fotógrafo, me gusta la cocina y convertir espacios vacíos en hogares. Disfruto del silencio por igual que una buena conversación. I’m a photographer, I like cooking and my hobby is turning empty spaces into homes. I enjoy a good conversation and silence equally.
