Die Unterkunft
This is a classic rural kiwi experience which allows you to unplug and get back to basics without sacrificing comfort. Set on the incredible doorstep of Fiordland national park its the perfect base for all your Fiordland adventures- just 5 mins drive to Doubtful Sound, 15mins drive to the start of the Kepler track and 20mins to Te Anau -the gateway to Milford Sound.

One of 5 cabins, nestled amongst native trees keeps your space private. Being on a hill access to the cabins is a walk from the carpark ranging from 30-50 meters up a rough gravel track.

Our bathroom facilities are modern flush toilets and hot showers with excellent pressure! This is in a communal bathroom block located next to the carpark so less than 1min walk up and down the gravel track.

While there is no wi-fi , fridge or charging outlets in the cabin our bathroom and laundry area does provide a space for this with a large fridge for all cabin guests.

We have two private outdoor hot baths for an amazing soak under the stars or watch the sun set over the mountains with a glass of wine- perfection! $20 per bath (two people can fit snugly into one).

Our indulgent meat & cheese ($50) platters are sourced from all local South Island producers and include a selection of 4 different handcrafted meats, three cheeses, stuffed olives, honey comb, gherkins, sundried tomatoes, fresh grapes or seasonal fruit, basil and cashew pesto, chunky sundried tomato dip and a home made chutney served with fine wafer crackers

To complete the experience order one of our breakfast baskets delivered to you in the morning (or in the fridge the night before if you are leaving very early). They include muesli, bread, jams & butter, fresh eggs from our chickens, bacon, yoghurt, fresh fruit & warm baked croissants. $30

We also have bike hire available as the stunning lake Manapouri is just a short 15min ride down the hill and along the flat for 3km. Take a swim or ride further along the track to Supply Bay (roughly 8km one way from Freestone). $15 per bike for two hours, $20 for 4 hours. We also have child seats for the back available.

Lastly, having both worked many years in Milford and Doubtful Sounds we are happy to discuss your options for excursions there and assist with booking trips for you so its all sorted when you arrive, making one less thing for you to arrange!

Zugang für Gäste
Guests have access to their own private cabins and the communal laundry/ shower block. Please feel free to come and see us in the house before 8pm. You are free to wander around the property. Our hens would love any of your old food scraps so please go ahead and feed them.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Bring a torch (or smart phone light) it is very dark at night and you may have to go down the hill to use the toilets! The path is uneven so take care. There is NO POWER in the cabins apart from solar lighting but you can charge your devices in the communal laundry area or in the house.
If you are not arriving until late at night this may not be the best place for you. Freestone is a destination in itself rather than a quick stopover.

Lage

Manapouri, Southland, Neuseeland

Manapouri is a quiet small village at the entrance to the Fiordland National Park. It is located on the eastern shore of New Zealand’s most beautiful lake: Lake Manapouri. With its laid back character and population of around 400, it’s a great alternative to the busy tourist spots in the surrounding areas, like Te Anau, which is only 15 minutes drive north. Pearl harbour in Manapouri is the departure point for all Doubtful Sound trips and several of the Great Walks in Fiordland. The local town has a couple of pubs and cafes. A general store and a petrol station. The closest supermarket, chemist and medical centre is 15 minutes drive away in Te Anau

" Not all those who wander are lost"- JRR Tolkin Born and bred in New Zealand, this land, its people and its food are my number one passion! I have recently hung up my guiding boots after 8 years to start a family with my wonderful partner Warren and our recently arrived son Quintin. It was never a job but a lifestyle, and one that I was absolutely STOKED to be living every day! I can’t help smiling all the time because I simply love what I do, still do- now I get to share a very special part of NZ with others in our family home and share our collective kowledge of all the best places to visit and things to do around NZ! As spring rolls around again we start getting excited about all the people we are going to meet, the food that’s going to be eaten and the places to be explored! We can’t wait to meet you all and be a part of your trip of a lifetime! “Jaclyn was great. She is very warm, funny and kind. She cooks like a dream and is very passionate about New Zealand. She shared her love for New Zealand music and botany and culture.” Julie Moews (Carlsbad, California, USA) November, 2009 “What a wonderful spirit and warm light that she exudes. She possesses a great desire for adventure and incredible love of life. Her smile never wavered and she was so warm and open with everyone. She was an awesome cook too!! I told her I was going to abscond with her back to Iraq so she could keep me well fed!” Helen Toney (United States military) October, 2010 “Jacs is the most happy person I have ever met. She truly enjoys her job and it shows every day. The hours she worked and the personality she presents are simply terrific.” Gerda Eck (Milwaukie, Oregon, United States) November, 2012
