Die Unterkunft
My husband & I built this house when we first married 35 years ago and we lived there for many years ouselves so we are very fond of this lovely place. The property is half of a duplex. You will have this entire side to yourself as well as a private yard ; we ask that you be respectful of our neighbors -- many of whom are our friends -- by not being loud or disruptive. We ask that you respect our space by not wearing shoes inside; a tray to hold wet shoes is beside each entry door. We have no objection to cannabis use but there will be no smoking of any substance, including tobacco, inside the house. You are welcome to smoke in a covered area beside the garage. No pets. No parties. Only registered guests on premises.

In addition to the two queen size beds there is a full sized futon in the upstairs sitting area. Extra sheets and pillows are available in the closet of the master bedroom. The bed in the master bedroom has a memory foam topper and is a little more firm than the softer mattress in the second bedroom. Each bedroom has a suitcase holder and each closet is stocked with wooden hangers.

The TV has a Roku and antenna that will give you access to Netflix, music, and the local TV stations. Wifi is provided.

The laundry room is stocked with ironing board, iron, detergent, and hangers. There are two charming sunrooms in this bright, welcoming space; one upstairs and one downstairs. The downstairs sunroom has been stocked with a variety of and board games and cards for you to enjoy at the large kitchen table right off the sunroom.

The upstairs bathroom has a tub and shower, the downstairs bathroom is a shower only; both have double sinks. Bathrooms are stocked with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, toilet paper, cotton balls, and hand soap. There is one blow dryer.

The kitchen has been equipped with a full range of pots, pans, utensils, dishes, and cutlery. You're provided with coffee, creamer, sugar, and a variety of teas. The refrigerator holds basic condiments (mustard, mayo, ketchup, Tabasco). There is no ice maker so you're asked to re-fill ice trays as you use them as a courtesy to the next guest. This property is on a well; there is a reverse osmosis filter for drinking water at the kitchen sink. There is a wood burning stove that you're welcome to use, but you must provide your own firewood which can be found at Ace Hardware, King Soopers, Safeway, or most convenience stores.

Should we have a major snowfall the private drive will be plowed, however, we cannot guarantee what time the driver will get to the property as he has a large route to service. In the event of a light snowfall, please use the shovel provided to clear the sidewalk.

There is room for up to three vehicles, but there is no covered parking. Please come equipped with snow brushes and/or scrapers to clean your car, as these will not be provided.

Zugang für Gäste
The entire house, front yard, and side yard are your to use. We put up a hammock in the warmer months.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Rahter than use a cleaning service, I am doing all the cleaning during COVID to insure that Airbnb standards are being followed. We take your health -- and our own -- very seriously.

Trash service comes on Thursday. Please roll the outside bin up to the end of the driveway on Wednesday night.

Lage

Golden, Colorado, Vereinigte Staaten

We're located in a transitional neighborhood that is growing in interesting and wonderful ways. During your stay you'll be within walking distance of three local watering holes. The iconic Rock Rest Saloon, which has been a landmark watering hole for Golden since 1907 is right across the road. Walk a half block to the north on Noble Street and you'll be at the patio area of CODA Brewery, a new, locally owned brew pub. One block to the west you’ll find the brand new micro-brewery and winery, Bottles & Barrels at Camp George West. Parking can be a tricky issue for all of these -- an issue that you won't have to contend with. Lucky you!

You're less than ten minutes away from Denver West Shopping Center and Colorado Mills, both of which have multi-plex movie theaters with stadium seating, plenty of places to enjoy casual dining, and a mix of franchise and locally owned stores for your shopping convenience. For organic shopping you'll find a Whole Foods at Denver West or locally owned Vitamin Cottage (our favorite!) on Golden Road.

Heading east into Lakewood, you'll find an eclectic selection of things to do and see. Experience kava sourced from Vanuatu, at KavaSutra which recently opened a second location at Colfax and Kipling. Try a flight during Happy Hour - you'll love the mellow atmosphere!

Locally owned, Jose O'Shea's, is our favorite place for Tex-Mex food. They have daily happy hour with a free buffet and Thursday is trivia night. We've been eating there since in opened in 1979, and have never had a bad meal.

Experience the original Colorado Mountain Pie at Beau Jo's famous pizza in Arvada or experience pizza cooked in a wood fired oven at Woody's on Main Street in downtown Golden. Both are equally wonderful.

Golden has 89 hiking trails to suit every level ability. You can find a complete list by installing the AllTrails app.

After your hike enjoy a relaxing soak at Indian Springs in nearby Idaho Springs. Established in 1859, this rustic spa has a large geothermal pool, public male & female vapor caves, and private pools. Closer to home you'll find Lake Steam Baths, located on West Colfax at Lowell Street. Established in 1927 by Russian immigrants, Lake Steam was originally used by the large Hasidic Jewish community that settled in the area as a place for ritual bathing. It has both a dry and wet sauana along with a large hot tub. They offer "ladies only" days along with specified times for families and couples. Both establishments offer a variety of body treatments, massage, etc., and Lake Steam has a kosher deli on site where you can sit wrapped in a sheet and enjoy a snack. Except for the public pool at Indian Springs, nudity is the rule (although not a requirement) of both establishments, so be prepared for that. Also, these are not the type of places where you'll be given a fluffy robe and a flute of champagne. If you're looking for pampering head to Tall Grass Spa in Evergreen for the red carpet treatment.

If you've ever wanted to experience curling, check out Denver Curling Center less than ten minutes away. Established by the Denver Curling Club, they offer public and private lessons along with open houses.

Red Rocks! Yes, you're only about 20 minutes from one of the most beautiful natural ampitheaters in existence. Everyone who is anyone in music has played this fantastic venue; many artists consider performing here the highlight of their career and for many it's on their bucket list. Even if you don't go to a show check out the restaurant with amazing views of the Foothills and Denver, then tour the museum which is open daily from 9-4, and contains a massive amount of memorabilia. The Beatles played here when they first came to America -- they were still such a novelty that the show didn't even sell out!

Now, we're gonna talk about Casa Bonita. While it's true that the only decent thing on the menu are the sopapillas, people don't go there for the food; its perfect blend of kitchy, campy entertainment and over the top atmosphere. Where else can you watch cliff divers while you eat a mediocre taco? The gift shop is a scream. Located in Lakewood, it's only about 15 minutes straight down Colfax. (Casa Bonita is currently closed due to COVID, with plans of re-opening in June.)

If you're here during the summer months there are many First Friday events all over the metro area. The most widely attended one is on historic South Santa Fe Drive. Enjoy the wide variety of cuisine provided by food trucks and the local restaurants that line this wonderful art district.

Hi, we're Shirley & John and we built the home where you'll be staying. Building is what we do; in our 35 years together we've built eleven homes and this one is the very first one we built together, so it has a very special place in our hearts. Our daughter was born in this house and we have many wonderful memories of our time here. In addition to building houses we've also owned a lumberyard and John is retired from a long career in residential and commercial construction. John is a Denver native, which is kind of a rarity these days. Although not a native myself, I have lived in Denver much longer than I lived in my native Oklahoma. So along with Southern hospitality you're getting the benefit of Colorado native who can help you navigate the city if you need it. We love antiquing, thrifting at estate sales, gardening, hot springs, drives in the mountains, live music, movies, walks with our adorable dog, and good food. John is a self taught artist and a pretty good piano player too. I love hand embroidery, reading, cooking, and creating mixed media art from found objects. We're only fifteen minutes away should you have any concerns or problems. We hope you enjoy your stay in our cozy home!
