Your private cottage is detached from our home so you can come and go without worrying about disturbing anyone.
Our cozy, private cottage is nestled in Historic Mission Hills at the center of San Diego’s greatest attractions. The highly desirable neighborhood is quiet and safe, but just minutes from popular destinations.
On the property of a historically-designated Craftsman home, The Mission Hills Casita, first built in 1913 as the carriage house, is fully renovated with a double bed, kitchenette (refrigerator, microwave, sink, hotplate, and crockpot), newly renovated bathroom and ample closet space. Very private, the detached Cottage studio is surrounded by brick patio, an outdoor kitchen with gas grill, lounging deck and landscaped grounds for your use and enjoyment.
Two full-service grocery stores are within easy walking distance and each Sunday morning the Hillcrest farmer’s market offers fresh produce, hot and cold prepared foods, and inexpensive fresh flowers galore.
We are very close to both Scripps Mercy Hospital, UCSD Medical Center and the Naval Medical Center San Diego for physician residents needing a place during a rotation, traveling nurses, and family members needing to be close to a hospitalized loved one.
The major freeways of San Diego intersect within 2 miles of our home. A city bus lines runs literally to our curb and the San Diego Trolley station in Old Town is a short walk away. Short taxis and Uber rides to downtown are approximately $15.
The proximity to the ocean keeps both daytime and nighttime temperatures comfortable. Check out the current weather at the Cottage
In addition to the cottage, you are encouraged to use our outdoor deck including dining table and grill. It is a great place to enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine at the end of the day.
I am generally available in the evenings or via text/email during the day.

You can walk to The Presidio and countless shops, restaurants & bars in one of San Diego’s oldest, safest, and most scenic neighborhoods. In the heart of San Diego, Mission Hills is adjacent to trendy Hillcrest and historic Old Town. Nearby markets offer a fabulous selection of gourmet foods, wine, coffee and full deli counters.
A city bus lines runs literally to our curb, though some guests have found the buses to be a little slow and inefficient. The San Diego Trolley station in Old Town is a short walk away, and you can also buy tourist bus passed there which take you all around the city. Short taxis and Uber rides to downtown are approximately $15.
We live in a quiet residential neighborhood and ask that guests respect the peacefulness of our property and maintain reasonable noise levels for our neighbors. There is plenty of street parking, but we request you to park in front of our house when possible.
We keep a smoke free home, but we provide guests with a designated smoking area in the garden, should they need it.
No more than 2 people allowed to stay overnight (not including infants and toddlers).
Please secure the front gate when entering or existing the property to ensure that our pup, Nerea, stays put.
We want you to have a great time here and I hope you will return on each visit to San Diego. Thanks!
This darling carriage house is in a great neighborhood of San Diego. There is even a coffee shop across the street. Ed and Jamie were gracious hosts and enjoy sharing their home. They were very accommodating to our late arrival. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your carriage house.
This is a perfect spot for two people on a San Diego trip. Cozy, but has everything you need…including free street parking. Sitting on the patio late at night was an added bonus. NeNe, the family dog, is quite friendly once she gets to know you. It’s in a great part of town and is only a short drive away from almost everything. Ed was great with communication and any questions we had. Thanks for letting us stay at The Casita!
We had a great time here. Beautiful neighbourhood and amazing homes. Safe area. They had everything you needed and some good tips on eating out!
I had a positive experience during my stay here. A good friend and I stayed Thursday - Sunday, and during this time Celia was actually not present. Her father, Ed, however, accommodated us. There is a little booklet that Celia has put together so that guests can get to know the history of the home and the surrounding area (I found this very endearing). However, we had a car and my friend had been living in the San Diego area for about 6 months, so we didn't have to rely too much on our host for recommendations. Ed was very helpful in providing anything that we needed (additional soap, for example), but also provided for our privacy and freedom to come-and-go at our leisure.
The area is very quiet and peaceful, and the homes are beautiful. Short uber rides or drives can get you to the nearby Hillcrest area where there are abundant dining and nightlife options. The only thing I didn't realize when booking (which might have been an oversight on my part) was that the cottage is not air conditioned; from what I understand, this typically is not an issue given that the climate is usually quite mild in San Diego, however we happened to be staying on one of the warmest weekends of the year. Since we were out most of the days anyways, and the nights were cooler, we slept with the window open and weren't too bothered by the warmth, but an additional fan might have made the stay more comfortable for times in the late afternoon while we were showering from our days' activities and preparing for dinner and evening activities.
Overall, I would recommend to stay here! Thank you, Ed / Celia.
Ed and Jamie were wonderful hosts! They were kind, welcoming, and even invited us to their dinner part! We were unable to join due to other engagements, but I thought it was so sweet to invite us. The guest house is lovely! it is beautiful, quaint, and you have everything you need. I would definitely stay here again!
It's hard to imagine a more perfect Airbnb setup in San Diego. The Casita is in a great section of town - it's quiet, but close to just about everything. The Casita is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully provisioned with amenities for travelers. Bear in mind that the Casita is small - I was on my own and it's absolutely perfect for one person or two people who really like each other. Thanks very much for a great visit, Ed!
This was our first experience of using air bnb and the craftsman cottage in San Diego didn't disappoint.
We were welcomed on arrival by Ed who gave us some brief information before we set off to watch a baseball game in the town centre. The cottage is set in a beautiful residential area outside of the city but is well connected with buses and trolleys. We used the public transport during our stay to visit the gaslamp quarter, little Italy, mission beach and pacific beach.
We would definitely recommend this property as a peaceful place to stay close enough to all of the action in San Diego. Thanks for having us!!

Hi! I am a high school student who is eager to share our home and our great city with you. I have lived all my life in San Diego and dedicate much of my free time enjoying all it has to offer. I enjoy photography and hanging out with my friends. I have been hosting Airbnb guests since 2011 and have met so many cool people from all around the world - while saving up money for college. I have even used Airbnb to visit Mexico, France and Spain.
Fortunately, I manage the casita with the help of my parents, Ed and Jamie. When he isn't running an ultra-marathon or doing Crossfit, Papa works for a genomics company. Mama owns a marketing firm but would rather be cooking or travelling - preferably both. Nerea, our border collie pup, takes her job as greeter very seriously. We all love San Diego but spend lots of time south of border too, when time allows.
