Wonderful host, wonderful little cottage with everything that one could need.
Great attention to design...50es furniture, easy parking and a sweet neighborhood,
restaurants across the road, and the best bread I have ever smelled and tasted from the caffe next door.
New Leaf for groceries, and the shopping......
Thank You Kim and family.
The Butternut is indeed a true gem! It is a perfect location, and the hosts are helpful and kind. The condo is clean, comfy, and warm. I will certainly give a 2 thumbs up to this adorable place.
My family stayed at the Butternut Condos for close to three weeks. Kim was very friendly...she even braught us a few toys for my boy to play with during our stay. Originally we were only going to stay for a week, but we enjoyed ourselves so much that we opted to stay for another two weeks while house hunting and getting to know Portland. The condos are located on the quiet part of Hawthorne closer to Mt Tabor so we felt safe even with a three year old. I loved the keyless entry...I never had to worry about loosing a key. The condo itself was clean and the kitchen was well supplied. We did a decent amount of cooking while we were there which was nice to be able to do. My only complaint is that the smoke alarm seemed really sensitive, I set it off twice by just turning on the oven. And I really appreciated being right next to The Albina Press coffee shop across the street and Tabor bread next door. The coffee shop was very kid friendly...they even drew funky designs in my son's hot cocoa on multiple occasions. FYI...Tabor bread is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but on Mondays they put out their day old bread and cookies in a basket outside and you can purchase the items by sticking a couple bucks in an envelope and sticking it in their mail box. And since we stayed so long we used the free washer and dryer downstairs multiple times...it was so nice not to have to go to a laundry mat! Anyway, I would totally recommend staying at the Butternut Condos. We had a lovely experience!
We generally do not review our guests unless they request it. That way they do not feel as though they are under scrutiny while they stay with us. In order to post this response I had to leave a review for Charlie first. Thank you for your kind words and choosing to stay with us, twice!
We do prefer to take care of any situations that our guests have while they are staying with us. It is far easier to communicate to each other in person than to have to read about it in a review. If Charlie had mentioned the smoke detector to me while she was here I would have been happy to address the issue. Usually just opening a window and utilizing the kitchen fan while you are cooking is all that you need to do. We mention that in our house manual. We live on the property and are easy to contact and happy to be helpful.
This is a great place to stay. Kim, the host, was very accommodating with an early check-in and responded quickly to any questions. I loved the keyless entry. It was great not having to worry about forgetting or losing a key. I only used the microwave, but the kitchen has everything you'd need to cook a meal. The bed was big and super comfy. Everything worked well: TV, wireless, lights etc. Everything was clean.
You can tell they took great care in decorating it. It was a cool/cozy spot to hang out and relax. It was nice that they provided a binder with contact info, directions for tv, laundry etc., so I never felt lost or confused about anything. Good location to walk to and from cool spots in the SE neighborhood. I would recommend this place to anyone.
We stayed at #5019 in the Butternut Condos for 4 nights at the end of August, 2013. Even tho it's right on the street, it's pretty quiet. Kim and her family were helpful and respectful. It's nice to be near Mt. Tabor for a morning hike. The condo is very cute, well furnished with just about anything you'd need during a visit to PDX. I especially appreciated the washer dryer - as this was our last stop of a 10 day vacation - and most of our clothes needed to be washed. Thank you Kim and family! I would definitely stay there again.
We really enjoyed our stay. When our host, Kim, saw I was walking with a cane (foot surgery), she changed us to a condo with only 1 step instead of our original reservation which had several steps. It was so thoughtful & made it much easier for me to get around.
These small condos are the cutest! Since we like & collect mid-century furniture & accessories, we really felt comfortable here. We actually found an 'office in a box' type desk like the one in our condo & bought it!! Furniture & interiors are well kept, seating comfortable. It was easy to entertain our family members (2 at a time) with the full kitchen. Bed was comfortable. Garden space was lovely & (website hidden). Tabor Bread Company was my personal fav for coffee & pastry. We enjoyed shopping & dining along Hawthorne & it would be fun to spend more time at Butternut condos.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Butternut Condos. It was clean, well located and had a lovely backyard. Thanks again to the owners!
Great way to feel at home in Portland. Comfy, impeccably clean, well appointed, with a comfy bed and and a terrific little kitchen. Set in a quiet residential area but close to restaurants, markets, fantastic coffee, a killer bakery, and beautiful Mt. Tabor, the location is relaxed yet accessible. Easy public transport or bike rides to anywhere in Portland and make this location a win, whatever you want to explore. Kim and her family were hospitable and unobtrusive - there when we needed them, doing their own thing otherwise. You should know that the Butternut enclave surrounds a lovely garden, with chairs, tables, a thriving veggie garden, and nice little places to sit and relax. I'd definitely stay again. Hazelnut gave me the perfect way to settle in and feel like a local in Portland.
The furnishings were luxurious and very comfortable. I really appreciated that the bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. (All smelled great!)
I slept very well and saved some money by keeping breakfast food in the fridge. The condo was comfortable, pretty (in a rustic sort of way), and a great value. I would definitely stay there again.
This was probably our best Airbnb experience over the past two years. Extremely comfortable, well-located, and host has thought of every detail for a comfortable stay. She has gone out of her way to decorate the place in a mid-century modern design.
We stayed for three nights after a long work week in Portland. Great just relaxing, cooking, and walking around the Hawthorne district. Coffee shop across the street. Plenty of restaurants (and food trucks) that are easily walkable. Extremely fast wifi which is always a plus in our book.
Host met us the first day and then just let us be. I wish every Airbnb experience could be like this.
