Die Unterkunft
Welcome to 262 Tokerau Beach Road – The Cosy Little Black Cottage
Please make yourself at home.
This is our Cosy Little Black Cottage, off the power grid, fully Solar Powered with normal waste utility connections.
Solar Power – Setup: Should you wish to run Large Power usage appliances like your Hair Dryer or use the Induction cook-top / Toaster etc. please use the extra fitted labelled Power Outlets (please look for the Labels on the extra power outlets on top of the counter, thanks)
Should you want to use the small fan heater next to the fridge to warm-up the Cottage please only use it where it is, all you need to do is turn on the power on the supplied power outlet next to the fridge on the floor – same place you will need to turn on the fridge if you need to use it.
All flush-mounted power outlets and lights throughout the cottage are 240-Volts with maximum output from the inverter at 1800-Watt so there is no problem running small wattage appliances. The big feature is that this is eco-friendly.
How it works is that on the roof are 2 X 300Watt Solar panels that catch the suns energy and feed it through an inverter and stores the energy in 2 large deep cycle batteries in the Laundry. The inverter then feeds the stored power back into the cottage at 240-volts / 1800-Watt for normal use. For Safety - please treat all power points as live as you would in a normal house.
Please call us if any problems: Michael 021637083
WATER: The Cottage is on tank water so please be careful with all water use as we have very long dry spells here. The toilet is dual flush. Hot water is by Gas with Cylinder under the south side of the cottage. If you run out of hot water, please let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange for a new Gas cylinder. (Should not happen as we monitor it)
WIFI: There is a WIFI connection available with limited data – please don’t do large downloads, will be fine for normal use. For your WIFI connection please look for: xxxxxxx > then please connect with Password: xxxxxxxxx > (please note case sensitive)
TV, Freeview, USB-loaded movies: To watch TV you need to turn on both the TV and the Freeview box (Two remotes) Ensure TV is set on “HDMI-1” to watch all the normal Freeview channel available, this is selected by using the Freeview remote. Should you like to watch a movie or two we loaded a few movies for you on a USB that is connected to the TV – to view movies please select on TV-remote input from USB, look for movies, select the one you prefer then press play on the TV – remote, you will need to repeat this sequence to watch another movie.
BBQ: The Gas Bottle is under the kitchen top. Please turn ON/OFF after use. If the BBQ self-lighter is not working a long gas lighter is supplied in the utensil box, should the gas run out or you see it is low please contact us. (Should not happen as we check it)
Cleaning: All we ask is that you try and leave the Cottage as you find it, treat it with respect as if it is yours, thank you kindly.
Smoking: We would appreciate “NO SMOKING” inside the Cottage, outside is fine – please contain the butts and place in the outside rubbish bin, thank you.
Local Shops: (End of Tokerau Beach Road – See Map) – or just ask someone. Local Shop is open every day for Petrol, groceries, liquor. Also - across the road in the group of shops there is a Dive Shop, Takeaway and Bar.

Please Note:
Use the code xxxx to open the lock-box next to the sliding door. The keys are inside.

Thank you, with kind regards.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Ten things you can do while visiting our part of Paradise in the Winter-less North.

1. > Here you can have hours of fun playing in the water, gathering shellfish on Tokerau Beach, as well as fishing from the beach. Kayaking or paddleboarding – even surf beaches such as Taipa and Cable Bay.
2. > Have a horseback ride, drive a 4WD down 90 Mile Beach, (you can rent from North-land Rentals for the day) or even hire a Blow- kart.
3. > Visit the authentic Kauri gum-digging site (Gum-diggers Park) which has remained untouched since gum holes were dug almost 100 years ago. Learn about the biggest industrial booms of NZ’s past.
4. > Sample fish and chips at Mangonui’s Famous Fish Shop or lick a huge ice cream from Cable Bay Store.
5. > Walk the Mangonui Heritage Trail with many interesting sites – see if you can find the negro’s grave! Have a tipple at Mangonui Hotel or a refreshing drink at the Waterfront Cafe – all the while watching the tide and the boats.
6. > Of course, there is fishing for all skill and experience levels. From fishing off the wharves to throwing a line off the rocks or even chartering a boat for a morning.
7. > Relax with a glass of local wine and view the myriad of stars above in the clear skies
8. > Take a bushwalk at Rangikapiti Pa or walk from Taipa to Reids Beach – best at low tide to go around the rocks
9. > Go for a Wednesday evening sail at Mangonui Mill Bay Wharf
10. > Sample local produce and art and crafts at the Tuesday evening market in Mangonui or the Saturday markets at The-church opposite the fire station (excellent chilli tomato sauce) or the Mangonui Hall with everything from breadboards to olive oil and earrings!
All in all, you can have a relaxing break in Doubtless Bay or get active – but you will be sure to want to return‼
