Die Unterkunft
Enquire about having the whole house to yourself .......

The house has been a renovation project close to our Daughters heart . Currently living in London, she is a young professional from New Zealand who decided to buy this standalone house and restore it to it's former glory. The house is hundreds of years old, and is situated at the original entrance of the village, marking one of the oldest buildings in the area.

So, what's within walking distance?
The great news is that you are in a secluded village surrounded by ample walking trails, freshly grown fruit and vegetables, olive trees, grape vines and next level views in a true Tuscan setting. So while you will need a car, you can happily spend your time exploring the village and surroundings on foot.

How far is the beach?
Just over an hour's drive to the area of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. On the Mediterranean, it's the ultimate beach destination. A 2.5hrs drive will take you all the way to Levanto - the forgotten village of Cinque Terre - and where we highly recommend as a must see destination. Spend the day walking between the villages or taking the train, knowing you can drive home flushed with the sun and ready for a big relaxing sleep. Otherwise, it's a 1.5hr drive to La Spezia, the southern gateway to the famous Five Terraces.

What restaurants and bars are nearby? Meals are available 200 metres away at our Guest Restaurant in Motrone.

Nearest shops and Restaurants are a 30 minute drive down the hill .
Alternatively, ask me about the local produce that can be delivered to your doorstep for a small charge! There is also a bread delivery 3 times a week to the village.

Breakfast, should I expect it?
We will supply a few local produced items to get you started in the morning including coffee (very important) a full delicious breakfast from home grown produce is available at our Guests Restaurant.

What's the village like?
Very small, idyllic, and potentially nothing like you've experienced before! At the top of a winding narrow road, lies Motrone. Hundreds of years old, this village has seen much more than world wars. The road was build in the 60's, and ironically saw the decline of the village population. Back in it's hay-day, the locals will tell you of 300+ people filling the cobble stone streets of the mountainous retreat, living off the land and meeting to go on dates with the good looking folks from neighbouring villages. Nowadays, its an ageing population, but doesn't keep the locals from having a great time and being super friendly (albeit interested in the people who find themselves there!). You'll find no shops here, however more information is below.

What is there to do in the area?
Tuscany is at your doorstep. The following places are day great day trips and don't involve much driving:
- Lucca
- Pistoia
- Cinque Terre
- Florence (ask us about tips for free parking)
- Pisa
- Chianti region - think wine
- Garfagnana
- Abetone (brilliant skiing in Winter)
- Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, Livorno
- Volterra
- Much much more
See Visit Tuscany for much more information.

Motrone, Toskana, Italien

Ancient Tuscan Village on the Via Clodia an ancient Roman road.
Motrone was known in times of old as the eyes of Lucca and afforded waring fractions a vista in most directions keeping the inhabitants safe - today Motrone retains much of its old charm. A peaceful, friendly place from where you can launch your tour of Tuscany, especially Lucca and the upper Serchio Valley, incorporating visits to the Devils bridge at Borgo a Mozzano, the termal spa at Bagni di Lucca, rotto del Vento (cave of the winds) the old city of Barga and its Cathedral, and not forgetting the Castelnuovo and Castiglione. Many of the numerous small towns in the area have open air markets at least one day of the week, and again don't forget to look out for the advertising on the main road advertising fiestas during the summer months.
