Lage

Portland, Oregon, Vereinigte Staaten

The only similarity the Mississippi neighborhood shares with other districts is that it is uniquely Portland. In fact, trying to describe it would be like trying to verbalize a color, but let’s say that it has a little bit of that ‘special something’ that comes to mind when thinking of PDX… a Mardi Gras parade of high school bands accompanied by unicyclists with flame throwers (yep), the annual Mississippi Street Fair (~45,000 people), a thoroughfare for the world naked bike ride, notorious music venues, outdoor movies with fire pits, over 12 great bars, food cart pods and great dining. This street celebrates 5 nights out of the week.

More information
I encourage you to explore EaterPDX for a better idea of the local attractions, but know that there are many other things on this street. In my mind, here are the best features the street has to offer, and they’re all within a block or two of this residence:

Coffee/Cannabis
* Nectar - for those that indulge, directly across the street from you is Nectar, one of the finer pot shops downtown has to offer. I recommend you browse their website as they keep a more up-to-date menu. I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that that smoking is prohibited in the unit and on the porch, however edibles and vaporization are welcome.
* Fresh Pot - It blows my mind that this isn’t on miss Ave. website, but in my mind this coffee shop is one of the best representations of the portland coffee scene. Its an institution… legend has it, it is Jerry Seinfeld’s favorite shop in town. It’s just one block away and has free refills.
* Albina Press - Need a table to sit and work or just more space for a group? Albina is just north of the building about 2 blocks and is just that. The staff here are the best (meaning they’re as kind as they are great baristas).
* Bloodbuzz - New and great… they are right across the street from the building in the Prost! Marketplace and offer coffee as well as a full bar (bloody mary’s on demand). Its also adjacent to a bbq cart which has a fresh fire going all day. Love the smell of fresh wood fire in the morning.

Food
* Monsoon Thai - I have a love affair with this place. In my humble opinion there are two types of Thai food… high end sit-downs or your local take-out joint. This is the latter, but the best version of it you’re going to get.
* Olympic Oysters -Oysters and champagne… says it all. They are in the building!
* Prost! Marketplace - Food carts! While this pod tends to fall down out of the ‘top 3’ food cart pod lists, I think it’s #1 (and not because I’m lazy). It is well curated, meaning there is something for everyone, and each cart is of the highest quality. Get a sushi burrito or the falafel of your life before *or* after a boot of german pils at Prost.
* Lovely’s 50/50 - I can’t explain the name, but the pizza is real good. They also have gelato.
* Por Que No! -Its a taqueria, and a good one at that. You can tell by the line that forms 30 mins prior to opening and grows into the afternoon. Good news is it moves quick and they provide umbrellas.
* Mississippi Avenue Pizza: Okay, let’s acknowledge that opinions on pizza range widely and are very subjective. Mine is that this is the best in town. Trick is that you have to order a fresh pie. By the slice is good, but fresh is life. Live music next door at the Atlantis Lounge every night of the week.
* Further (and better curated) reading: EaterPDX. Use this as much as you can as a resource

-To expand your horizons, get off Mississippi and check out N Williams Ave or the Albina/Killingsworth area.

Bars/Entertainment
* Rambler - Directly across the street. Three outdoor fire pits going as long as the booze is flowing. Pool table and board games upstairs, hammocks in back, friendly staff behind the bar. *Noteworthy: criscut fries.
* Prost - Also across the street, Prost is warm pub with communal tables and a destination patio serving hard-to-find German beers, sausages & pretzels. This place is perfect for groups. Very friendly staff that genuinely want you to enjoy your time. If you have three or more, get a boot (yes, like in Beerfest). Theres only three rules: minimum of three to a boot; two hands at all times and you cannot set it down. If you break any of these they make you get up on the bar and sing Danke Shoen with a neck tie around your head. If you’re into tasty light beer and a good time, Prost is your place. Get here early!
* Interurban -This is a restaurant and bar, however I’ve yet to actually eat here so I’m putting it in this category. Besides, its bar is beautiful… and it serves pitchers of manhattans.
* Bar Bar - Probably the most popular bar in NE PDX. Frequently a twenty-somethings haunt after the older/wiser go to bed. Full bar here, but I recommend a tecate and veggie burger w/ freedom fries. Seating inside can be hard to find, but the patio is heated and has a roaring fire pit. Weeknights the patio has classic movies playing or ‘the big game.'
* Moloko -$14 craft cocktails, fish tanks and a killer DJ… thats the vibe. There is also a garden-y patio.

Distinguished Attractions
* Paxton Gate -Frequently referred to as, ‘my favorite shop in Portland,’ Paxton Gate is boutique specializing in taxidermy, fossils, framed insects, science kits, jewelry & plants. It is a collection of the rare and fascinating. It is in the building and highly recommended for a visit. Kill time or find your next cantaloupe-turned-desk lamp.
* Heart of the Rose - Shamanic healing; Reiki mischief, Somatic Experience, Acupuncture and Massage.
*Greater PDX has more to offer. I am your resource for local insight, just ask!
