Holly and Eila were gracious hosts. Their breakfast consisting of eggs & toast, local fruits, and coffee was delicious. The room was clean as was the bathroom. Would stay again and would recommend.
This is a must see place in Hawi. What Holly and her partner have done on this piece of land is a testament to commitment to living ecologically. The guest room is beautiful ... by far the most beautiful space we stayed in while in Hawai'i. They welcomed us warmly, were kind and warm, served the most delicious breakfast and even showed us the local swimming spot. I was sorry that we had only booked for one night - the visit felt way too short. The clouds broke as we were leaving so we could look across to Maui. Exceptional beauty on the raw north edge of the Island, this stay is definitely one to add to your list of must dos. If you do not know ecological systems, they have many in place at their home - wind energy, aquaculture, water conservation, off grid electricity, gardens that produce incredible food etc. Living off grid does not have to mean sacrifice. They live in luxury, comfort and beauty.
A lovely and peaceful room set on a spacious property with views to the ocean. Holly and Aila were very welcoming, and I loved chatting with them over breakfast. Thanks Holly and Aila!
Holly greeted us when we arrived and showed us our lodging and her homestead. We were also introduced to Aila and they explained how they ran a self-sustaining homestead.
Wow! Wow! And wow! I want to be them! Absolutely stunningly beautiful place! Incredible! The view from the main building is phenomenal! Whales, whales and many more whales! Saw rainbows, saw seabirds, huge ships as I sipped my coffee. The breakfast was five stars! Eggs were yummy, fruit was succulent, coffee was delicious. I LOVED the toast! Our room was amazing. Skylight, TV, bathrobes, great furniture. The bed sheets were among the most comfortable I have ever slept on! The door to the room is a piece of art. Actually, the entire place is a functional art space. Holly and Eila have created living and working art as a home. Everything has thought behind it. Plants, trees, chickens, fish; everything has many purposes. Wonderful and inspiring hosts who truly love their spot in the universe. Their dogs and cats are great hosts, too! The dogs will make you smile with their antics! One evening I was stargazing and I heard both a whale spouting and a cow mooing within seconds of each other! That was cool! I also saw 6 feral piglets one morning, they ran away from me! Eila and the piglets are at odds with each other. If you stay here, ask her about the piglets!
The listing description is accurate. There is no "neighborhood" because this property is rural and a couple of miles from downtown Hawi. I felt very welcome because I was invited to use the main building and lanais in addition to the guest house accommodations.
We had a great experience at Holly and Eila's guesthouse. This really is an "eco-luxury" treat. It was really nice to meet Holly and Eila and their friendly dogs, cats, and chickens.
Even though this property is outside of town, is off-the-grid, and has beautiful ocean views, it's only a few minute drive from the town of Hawi. The town is surprisingly quaint, with some excellent cafes, restaurants, and galleries. We did the spectacular hike down to Pololu Valley - don't miss that! The more nothern Kohala beaches are also very accessible from here - just a 30 minute drive to Hapuna, Mona Kea, and Spencer Park beaches (same as from Kona). I definitely recommend a stay here.
