  • A big window at the front of the house ensures a a broad view
  • "5 stars are not enough. The location was exactly what we were looking for in choosing to stay in West Iceland: beautiful, scenic, and peaceful. The cabin is well-appointed for being a perfectly cozy home base and the stove kept the place plenty warm. The mountains behind the property were coated in snow, making for a gorgeous backdrop and on top of everything, we got to enjoy the Northern Lights from the front porch, all to ourselves. Thank you Kristján for providing such an amazing experience!
Danke.
  • What a wonderful time ! We had the chance to experience a storm the first night and a clear sky with northern light the second. It is hard to leave a comment on this house because we would like to keep it secret only for us! Thank you Kristjan.

  • “If you have ever hoped to find that special secluded place that offers style, tranquility and beauty this is it PERIOD Enchanting home with style and elegance in the most beautiful setting imaginable. Perhaps one on the best on earth, seriously :-)”

  • “Fantastic. From start to finish we loved Kolsstadir,
it is a truly special and beautiful place. The views are breathtaking, waterfalls out of one window, sweeping mountains down to the sea through the others...words just can't do it justice. We didn't see the Arctic Fox although we read in the guest book many people have. Luxury isolation, the perfect tonic for us after we got married in Iceland a few days before. It was a spotless property decorated with an artistic eye, I took some style tips myself to apply to my house at home. Kristjan was an exceptional host, from communicating clearly with us about directions and answering questions, to all the small special touches throughout the cottage....there are too many to list. This was a boutique Airbnb experience that I almost don't want anyone else to know about :) We are already arranging our return to this wonderful place. Thank you Kristjan and Lilja for sharing your wonderful cottage with us.
  • The best place I have ever stayed. Warm, cozy, beautiful house with everything you need in a stunning valley surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and wild horses (one is the spitting image of David Bowie). Kristján & Lilja were fantastic hosts that were always available and incredibly helpful. We're already planning our next trip back to this special place. Thank you Kristján for sharing this piece of heaven.
  • Kristjan went out of his way to make us feel welcome and made sure to greet us in person to guide us to the cabin. The cabin was just as in the images - extreamly cozy and situated on a beautiful hillside. Perfect for a romantic get away! If you come in the winter be aware that you need a proper 4Wdrive! The dirt road can become challenging in heavy snow. We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely recommend it to friends and family!

  • "We cannot say enough wonderful things about our 3 night stay in Kristjan's little cabin...a piece of heaven is a perfect description! It was the second half of our honeymoon and could not have been more romantic and exactly what we were looking for...and more. A lot of care clearly went into the construction and care of this "tiny house". Communication from Kristjan was perfect, the location, the cabin, cleanliness, amenities, charm, VIEWS, everything!!!...perfect. I recommend to anyone else without a single moment's hesitation. :-)"

  • We had such a special time staying in this lovely home. A perfect place to start our Honeymoon. Kristjan made us feel very special by going out of his way to leave us some lovely gifts, which truly touched us. Leaving our car down the tracks due to the high level of snow added to the adventure. Making fresh tracks made us really feel like we were the only ones experiencing this: we were individual, not just one in the crowds! The advice Kristjan gave us prior to our visit was invaluable. We ended up going to the Viking hot spring (which you can see in the pics). Again we were the only ones there! Making fresh tracks knee deep! So so romantic! If you are looking for non-standard touristic place to stay (be off the beaten tracks) this is the perfect location. I am a professional photographer - traveling the world for my job, and can honestly say that this location is in my top 5 of my best locations to take snaps! Thank you Kristjan

  • "What a fantastic place! It was exactly what we needed to escape and was clean and cosy. We had a great time and even saw the Aurora right above the cottage, walked the trails and visited the horses. The local food in the fridge was delicious. Kristjan picked us up from Reykjavik and took us on a tour on the way to the cottage visiting local hot springs, waterfalls and museum, which was fantastic. On the way back to Rek he also took us to Snæfellsnes Peninsula where we spotted a White Tailed Eagle. He has a wealth of knowledge about the area and was a great guide. Thanks for a great visit!"
  • Midsummer night - view from Kolsstaðir
  • Border Collies licking the sun at the backyard -Geldingadalur valley
  • The backyard of Kolsstaðir is the unspoiled valley where the river runs through with great hiking trails all around. Kolsstaðir is the black dot on the edge of the mountain hill on the right...
  • I recommend a hike into the valley, our private back yard
  • In Sælingsdalur (30 km. 18 mi), there is a swimming pool with bathing facilities at Laugar, Sælingsdal - Also if you prefer, a gethermal pool made the same way as during viking age - open 24/7 free of charge
  • Horses roam the area from spring to the end of the year
  • One of the most beautiful properties and locations in the world! A truly magical setting, the scenery is breath-taking. An incredibly well equipped house - it's a home from home experience, even down to the music collection, everything you could possible want. Beautifully designed, you can lose hours looking out of the huge window. We were there in winter and had a little slip on the road to the house, but Kristjan is the perfect house and arranged for the neighbouring farmers to come and pull our vehicle out of the snow! Great music collection, warm and toasty, we didn't want to leave. An excellent host, perfect and attentive communication, thank you Kristjan for an amazing stay.
  • Your House ist sooooo beautiful and set in a magical location. We really enjoyed second we were there. Over these past few days winter has returned to kolsstadir which makes it almost glow :-) Last Night the weather cleared up and we had a sky full of dia
  • A winter pic of Kolsstaðir and our dog Táta
  • Truly a magical place and the best AirBnB stay we have ever had. It was exactly as described and the pictures really don't do the view justice. It was very comfortable and cozy during our very cold stay. In fact, it's hard to believe just how comfortable it is considering you are almost in the middle of nowhere! Kristian was very easy to communicate with and met us on the first day. The wood fire was very romantic and keeps the place very warm. There is a small supermarket 15 minutes drive away. The shower in the cellar is very clean and very warm, it's a fun adventure going out in the snow.
  • There are horses around Kolsstaðir from May until January

  • Much like Iceland itself, the cottage at Kolsstaðir was completely magical and defied our expectations. Kristján was a wonderful host, suggesting many great things for us to do and preparing the house with a lovely level of warmth and care. We stayed at the start of January and it was incredibly cozy. The fireplace, music and fantastic scenery are something you need to experience!! Though the cottage is remote, it was easy to find with the marked roads. Our only regret is not staying for a lengthier amount of time.

  • This is a beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. The first highlight of the house is the horses. We first met them when we went on a hike through the fields to search for the Viking ruins near the house. They are curious and friendly, and the photographers in our group loved taking pictures of their beautiful, varied colors. The second highlight of our trip was the auroras. We were here at the beginning of November and were able to capture vivid images of the auroras, as well as view them from the comfort of the house through the massive window in the living room. The last highlight was the comfiness of the home itself. The wood burning stove was cozy and great, the kitchen had exactly what we needed, and the entire place was very charming!
