We are blessed with two private onsen baths! Spring-fall, we use the outdoor "rotenburo" and indoor "hinoki" cedar bath. Typically mid December to February we only use the indoor "hinoki" cedar onsen bath. There is a nice restaurant a 10 min walk from the house. Good hiking trail access.

Guests will have access to the full house.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
If you are interested in skiing or sledding or just a lot of snow, Hakone is not the right place for you. Instead, I strongly recommend you check out my other listings in Niigata (see my profile). The Ski in/out Private Onsen Hotel (aka Koizumiya) is located right on the slope directly in front of the ski lift! The area is famous for having some of the heaviest snowfalls in Japan and as well as some of the best powder snow. It too has a private onsen bath and is located very convenient to the Shinkansen (70 min to Tokyo) and many restaurants and shops.

The other place is located in the mountains and is only a 15 walk from the gondola to Kagura (famous for deep powder and amazing back/side country skiing). It is a 108 year old traditional Japanese house and very charming!

Lage

Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa, Japan

From Hakone, it is a 60 to 90 minute drive to Mt. Fuji, or a 2-3 hour bus ride via the Gotemba shopping outlets. There are, however, lots of famous "views" of Fuji from Hakone, if that is what you're after. You will have a much greater chance of seeing Fuji if you visit in the winter when the air is crisp and clear!

A 3 minute walk from the house brings you to Sarunochaya Bus Station. You are close to the Fujiya Hotel, Yunessansu Resort and Lake Ashi. It's 20 minutes by cab from Hakone Yumoto Station (about 3800 yen).

The Hakone area has tons of tourist spots, and there is lots of local fun too.

We often drive to a fishing hole (great for the kids) where you BBQ your catch right there next to the river.

If hiking is your thing, there are lots of great hikes all over the Hakone area and there is easy trail access from the house. It's possible to walk the entire ridge-line from Lake Ashi to Hakone Yumoto (the house is located near the ridge-line about an hour from Lake Ashi (by foot in the mountains). There is no better way to relax after a long hike than a soak in a Japanese onsen!

I have lived in Japan since 1994. My family loves the outdoors and we love hot springs. We spend a lot of time hiking in the mountains, playing by the river and then relaxing in our onsen (volcanic bath). We are also avid snowboarders and skiers and love to explore the backcountry. If that sounds good to you, you'll probably enjoy your stay at one of our homes! We will probably not be around when you visit, but hope you will enjoy your time!
