Our Airbnb accommodations offer our guest/s a truly unique opportunity to live in The Captain Morrill House, an historic island home built in 1902 for Charles Burnham Morrill. Captain Morrill was captain of the Aucocisco, a steam boat of the Casco Bay Ferry Line that made daily runs between Portland and Orr’s and Bailey Islands. His home, partially restored by local brothers, Ralph “Chip” and Steve Black, offers dramatic views of Casco Bay from most windows, most definitely from the two guest bedrooms. The Malaga Island Room, formally the site of an art installation, features the tragic and disturbing story of the state-sponsored destruction in 1912 of the mixed-race community on nearby Malaga Island. Learn about this shameful historical incident and present day efforts to honor these victims of racism, xenophobia and the Eugenics movement while exploring scenic Orr’s, Bailey and Sebascodegan Islands.

The Stowe & Millay Room sleeps one guest who might like to read and reflect on the writings of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Edna St. Vincent Millay while looking toward Millay’s beloved Ragged Island just a few miles to the east across Casco Bay. Quotations by both authors adorn two walls of this charmingly decorated room.
Each room has been recently restored, features a ceiling light and fan as well as a writing desk, reading lamps and original art by your host.
The common areas, a 193O’s style bathroom with combination claw foot tub/shower and The Gallery Room, aka Front Parlor, exude a Victorian ambiance. Art and antiques abound within the house while outside two restaurants within walking distance and picturesque coastal scenery await you! If you’ve always wanted to explore the coast of Maine and want now to learn about local history and two famous literary figures, this is the place to stay!

I stayed at Steve’s place while in town for a wedding. Steve has a great way of sharing his life and interests—-about the island and surrounding islands, about his artwork, etc—if you’re interested in engaging. He also made some great recommendations about what to do and see (and…

Wonderful quiet evening night in a preciously old, funky, but deeply comfy house. Amazing view of a summer sunset was a bonus! And the location is great. Remote enough to get some real island peace, but a short beautiful walk away from some places to get seafood, sandwiches, and…
