Private, cozy, and quiet, our Kiva is a restful place to stay the night, watch the stars, and plan the next day's adventure

The natural Adobe walls and floor, high ceiling, and big windows contribute to the grounding, yet open feel of the modest round space.

Located near 2 undeveloped natural hot-springs, (walking/hiking distance to the closer one).

Rio Grande River National Monument and plenty of hiking in close proximity.

15 Miles to Downtown Taos (groceries); 22 Miles to Taos Ski Valley

Die Unterkunft
The Space-

The Kiva is a single room structure, nestled into its own little hillside. It is a small space, but a high ceiling and large windows create an open feel . The interior features hand finished natural materials including local clay for the Adobe floors and walls, and raw timber cut from the Taos mountains for the ceiling. A stay in this hand-made home is truly a unique experience.

The Kiva is nearby 2 different scenic natural Hot Springs, on the edge of the Rio Grande river. The closer of the two Springs is hiking distance from the Kiva, the other is a short drive away. The springs are free and open to the public, as such, you may encounter other folks there.

This "earth sheltered" structure is an experiment in small scale sustainable construction. Our goals include utilizing natural interior finishes, passive solar building design and site layout, minimal heating needs, and minimal water consumption.

-Modest Amenities (please read)

Despite our close proximity to beautiful water features such as the Rio Grande River and the various Hot Springs, our property does not yet have a water well (future wish). At present, we haul water to the property from a friends well.

Scarcity of water does limit what amenities we are able to provide. We offer the Kiva as a rustic space with no "running" water features such as sink, shower, or flush toilet.

There will be several gallons of good drinking water stocked in the room, for drinking and washing up hands/face and brushing teeth.

There are no shower, bath, or running water sink available on site. The undeveloped hot springs and also the Rio Grande river are about a mile hike away, and are great if you are craving a water experience.

The toilet is a clean and well maintained composting toilet, located about 100 feet from the dwelling, in a separate, private outhouse structure.

There is not a kitchen space for cooking or food prep, so consider arriving with some minimal preparation food options. There are some great restaurants in Taos, as well as grocery stores that have carry out food.
Cooking camp stoves are permitted outside the Kiva, but please provide for your own cleanup needs. There is an electric kettle, tea, and some mugs for a hot beverage.

We provide bed linens, but please bring your own towel if you need one for the hot springs.

During the cold months, the Kiva uses a safe and quiet electric heater. The Fire Place is not currently functional and not available for use.

We have hosted many happy guests despite these admittedly modest amenities, and we hope you will consider a stay in our Kiva.

For the most part I give guests plenty of space, however I live nearby and often can become available, should a need arise.
