Just 90 miles north of New York City, ours is an impeccably renovated studio getaway in the heart of New Paltz on a quiet tree-lined street. Trimmed in fine wood throughout, the space is located on the bottom floor of our comfortable cedar-shake home, and features a private entrance, living area with queen bed and cozy armchairs, kitchen area. No stove. Jacuzzi walk-in bathtub, cedar-lined closet, and a big casement window that faces the setting sunrise. Perfect location for business travelers.

Die Unterkunft
We no longer have a cooking stove but we do have a microwave, coffee pot, electric tea pot, toaster/convection oven, hot plate and toaster. We carry the necessities to prepare small meals. BBQ Grill in the back yard.
We have installed a new AC/Heating system!!! Everyone who visits the space says it has marvelous energy—uplifting and creative, with a homey nobility. From the handsome lighting to the well-crafted furniture and accessories, the entire space is decorated with style and distinction.

New Paltz is a great getaway for NYC-dwellers and international travelers alike. Just 90 miles north of the city, it offers fresh air, precious farms and woodlands, sophisticated dining, and a thriving arts scene. In the 1960s it was dubbed Berkeley East, as it was the hotbed of the counterculture.

Today New Paltz, and its surrounding area, is the home away from home for many New Yorkers who come here to rest and rejuvenate. So if you live in or are visiting New York City, you will want to include a few days in New Paltz to experience the real New York state of mind. The Metro-North train out of Grand Central stops in Poughkeepsie, just 18 miles across the bridge from New Paltz; Trailways has a bus that comes directly to New Paltz from Port Authority in Times Square.

While no smoking is allowed indoors, you are welcome to light up in the seating area at the entrance, where you can watch wildlife walkabout--deer and wild turkeys, rabbits and groundhogs. You are also welcome to use the gas barbecue in the backyard, where there is also a fire pit for toasting s’mores, telling tall stories, or just staring into dancing flames.

A perk my husband and I really enjoy are the free tennis courts and running track in a natural setting just several minutes away on foot. Play tennis or run for as long as you like during the summer months, other times only after school hours.

We are artists who care about our surroundings and creature comforts; my husband is a conservatory-trained musician, I am a poet who recently resigned from my position as a media executive.

We require a two night stay on all weekends and three nights for all holiday weekends

New Paltz, New York, Vereinigte Staaten

New Paltz is lauded for its world-class hiking and rock climbing at Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park. The serene majesty of the Shawangunk Mountains draws visitors from all over the world. Its hiking trails beckon the day tripper with routes ranging from easy to challenging and offer stunning mountain views, glittering streams, waterfalls, and lakes for swimming—you may want to bring a picnic basket!

If you are a sucker for sunsets, you will definitely want to view at least one from the Springtown Trailhead, which overlooks the entire Catskill range. It epitomizes the majesty of sunsets! In town there are bicycles you can rent and kayaks, too. The Walkill River and its tributaries that dissect New Paltz offer tranquil glides downstream through lush landscapes. During the winter months, cross-country ski equipment can be rented in shops for use on a myriad of trails on the mountain in town.

New Paltz is steeped in historical lore. Founded by the French Huguenots in 1678, New Paltz is home to the oldest street in the U.S. with the existing houses—it received this distinction from The Guinness Book of World Records. More historic homes, including the Vanderbilt and Roosevelt mansions, can be toured in Hyde Park, a quick jaunt across the bridge.

The whole Hudson Valley, in fact, is teeming with history. George Washington spent time in nearby Hurley while visiting his troops during the American Revolution. Once the capitol of New York State, Kingston, a quick drive north of New Paltz, nearly fell to the British during the revolutionary war. Every year, in full regalia, a re-enactment of the war takes place in Kingston. Great for history buffs!

We are walking distance to downtown New Paltz, which has scores of fine dining options and a local, award-winning boutique brewery. There is also an area Wine Trail, which you can follow from vineyard to vineyard tasting all kinds of luscious wine from locally grown grapes.

Bars with live music book hot bands from all over. Leave the car at home and take a stroll downtown so you won’t have to worry about designating a driver. Neighboring towns such as Rosendale and High Falls also have a lively music scene. Larger venues in nearby towns like Marlboro, Woodstock, and Poughkeepsie book headlining pop artists.

As for classical music, the Bardavon Concert Hall and Bard College, both a quick drive across the bridge, feature world-class chamber and symphony orchestras.

Besides music, New Paltz is also known for its art galleries and The Dorsky Museum of Fine Art at SUNY, New Paltz. Gallery guides are available for lists of art exhibits in all genres throughout the Hudson Valley.

Last but not nearly the least, let’s not forget the theater! The SUNY-New Paltz, theatrical season stretches from October to May, which includes Shakespeare and Pulitzer Prize-winning plays. Nearby, Bard College also presents formidable theater. And as for theater, or close encounters, of the third kind, every year nearby Pine Bush hosts a UFO festival, as this hamlet is historically famous for UFO sightings in the U.S.

All in all, New Paltz and its environs is chock-full of history, natural wonder, the arts, and extraordinary happenings. Come for all of it or none of it. Either way, you’ll be sure to enjoy yourself.
