Prepare for a vacation get-away in a truly magical location with spectacular views, stillness, natural isolation, and rooted in history and culture. This two-bedroom, two-bath home on Abiquiu Lake - with access to the lake from the owner's two private waterfront lots - provides all you need for the perfect get-away. Many of our guests return every year, and we hope you do, too!

The Casita del Lago was built into the rocky shore above Abiquiu Lake, and the 22-acre property extends down to the lake (and actually out into the middle of the lake). The home has two bedrooms and two baths; a full and modern kitchen; an open concept family room with a fireplace; a dining area with stunning views; and laundry facilities. The floor-to-ceiling windows capture the amazing views from every direction: Abiquiu Lake, the Chama River, Abiquiu’s million-year-old red cliffs, green and purple fields, Cerro Pedernal, Carson National Forest, Ghost Ranch, and more.

We subscribe to cable TV and the fastest Internet in the area - and both are offered to you free of charge. We also include charcoal for the BBQ grill, laundry supplies, and many spices/seasonings. We supply the firewood for the outdoor chiminea and fire pit. If you plan to use the indoor fireplace, please bring the appropriate number of Duraflame logs for your use indoors.

Outside, you will find heated patios, amazing spots to sit and take in the views, an infrared propane grill, a hot tub built into the rocks, a fire pit overlooking the arroyo, a hiking path to the lake, and 40 acres to explore.

The home is conveniently located to visit Ghostranch, Echo Amphitheater, Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Plaza Blanca, Pedernal, and the Carson National Forest. You will also want to explore the Purple Adobe Lavender Farm, whitewater rafting down the Chama River, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, Native American pueblos, and other amazing sites. Plan easy day trips to Santa Fe, Taos, Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, and Bandelier National Monument. Visit Los Alamos and learn about the Manhattan Project.
You are welcome to take advantage of our Mercado (located at The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast in the neighborhood) or order online: gifts, books, cards, local art, bath/body products, jewelry, snacks, food items, and more.

We understand these are challenging times for travel, but we do believe our remote location away from the crowds provides a perfect setting for these times. While cleanliness has always been a priority, we have now implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures at all our properties. We have received the NM COVID Safe Certification. We follow the "Stay Safe" guidelines through the American Hotel and Lodging Association. We disinfect all high touch surfaces (light switches, door knobs, etc). We wash all linens in hot water. Our staff wear gloves and masks. Also, the hot tub is always disinfected between stays. We provide for self-check-in so you are able to come and go without contact. We want you to feel safe when you stay at our properties, so do reach out if you have any questions.

The Casita frequently books months in advance. If The Casita del Lago is booked - consider our one-bedroom/one-bath vacation home (Abiquiu Lake Mesa) or our luxury bed and breakfast property (The Grand Hacienda). We occasionally can make exceptions for one-night stays - reach out to us to discuss.

- The perfect remote location, away from crowds and traffic. Perfect for individuals, couples or families who want to experience the beauty of Northern New Mexico.
-We are located across the lake from Ghost Ranch and many people who stay with us take seminars at Ghost Ranch and live out of The Casita del Lago.
-Closest airports are ABQ or SAF.
-The Casita is 60 miles from Santa Fe and 120 miles from Albuquerque. Abiquiu is at an elevation of 6,300 feet.
-The warmest month is July and coldest is January.
-Detailed maps, directions, gate codes and helpful tips will be sent to confirmed guests prior to your arrival date. The check-in process is quick and easy - you check in when you want (after 4pm) without needing to coordinate with the owners!
-Trailers, boats and RVs cannot be parked on the property (although you can launch your boat and moor it in the water at the foot of our property while you are staying here, it just can't be stored out of the water on the property).
- Only people listed on the rental agreement are allowed in the home or on the property unless you receive approval from the host in advance. If you bring more people than you registered, everyone will be evicted without any refunds.

The home is located on a 22-acre lot on Abiquiu Lake, across the lake from Ghost Ranch on the Pedernal side of the lake. The home is in a gated community. The location provides an absence of both noise and light pollution. The lakefront property provides guests with lake access for swimming, fishing, hiking - or bring your kayaks or boat to explore the lake. Reach out to us to rent kayaks. There is a cove at the shore on our property perfect for swimming. Amazing night sky viewing and bird watching. Please note: Google Maps does not have our location marked correctly. We are not located in the village of Abiquiu - we are located outside of the village on Abiquiu Lake, away from the O’Keeffe tour busses and crowds!

Hello! We are Carolyn and Tom, owners of The Casita del Lago and Abiquiu Lake Mesa vacation rental homes and The Grand Hacienda B&B! We are active people - love hiking, skiing, running (well, we don’t love that but we do it), taking rides on our motorcycle, and scuba diving. Healthy living and eating are important to us. Most importantly, we absolutely love the peace, serenity and beauty of northern New Mexico and deeply appreciate the history and culture of the area. We found the most beautiful spot on planet earth back in 2010 - we couldn’t believe land surrounded by a lake, a river, million-year-old red rocks, and Pedernal was for sale. We purchased our land that very night. Eventually we built The Casita del Lago on the lakefront property and then purchased and remodeled the Abiquiu Lake Mesa home. In 2020, we completed our biggest project yet - The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast on Abiquiu Lake. Please check it out. Today, we share the beauty and magic of the Land of Enchantment with others by renting out our home and running the B&B to enable others to experience this incredible location…if you haven’t seen the sun rise or set over Abiquiu Lake and the red rocks, or, if you haven’t experienced an absence of noise and light pollution - then, well, you’ve missed the best part of Abiquiu. We have met people from all over the world who have discovered The Casita del Lago on Abiquiu Lake. Honestly, we are frequently surprised by how many people know about the little village of Abiquiu…how a couple in Australia heard about our home or why a guest from Spain would choose our home so he could swim (train) in Abiquiu Lake every morning. Meeting our guests - who quickly become part of our family of guests - is the best part of this experience. We pride ourselves in setting an example as honest, ethical hosts who want every guest to have a perfect experience. Because of this, we have a high rate of return guests. And this is why we continue to provide lodging in Abiquiu: meeting new friends; the positive stories, reviews, and pictures; and guests who never want to leave at the end of their stay - that is the beauty of the vacation rental journey.
