This is a beautiful two-story Lanna-style house, at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain. It is near the artist enclave area south of Wat Umong, and a short distance to Nimman, University, and the Old City. (Note however it is not in the Old City.) The area is peaceful, verdant, and has many restaurants and cafes. The house is spacious, elegant, and very comfortable. It has a full kitchen and a big wooden verandah to relax on.

Die Unterkunft
Because of the pandemic, we have made this listing for the whole house. (Only the pool is shared space.) That means that only you and your companions will occupy the house. The house has high ceilings and tropical hardwood floors, king-size beds, air-con, fan, big windows, and huge double doors leading out to an expansive verandah. The windows look down onto a tropical garden. It is very beautiful, tree-filled, with the sound of birds and frogs. The house itself is on a small street just a few meters from the edge of the national park.

Ampher Muang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Thailand

The house is in the most pleasant part of Chiang Mai. It's beautiful.
Note we are NOT in the old city, but in a forested enclave west of the old city, at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain.
The house is in walking distance of the famous temple called Wat Umong, and also the meditation temple called Wat Rampoeng. An equally short walk away is the artist enclave of Ban Khang Wat, as well a large variety of restaurants, food stalls, and very cool cafes.
It is a short walk to the 'Doi Suthep Non-hunting Area', a beautiful forested area of trails that has peacocks, deer, and other jungle fauna.

If you hop on a bicycle (we have several here), then you are in range of countless cafes and restaurants, including all the student fare south of the University, the village market and shops in Pong Noi, the Royal Project market, and the night-life center around Nimmanheiman Road. You can also bike to the Old City, which would take about 20 minutes. (A motorscooter would get you there in 10.)

The area here is a 'green zone' meaning development is restricted to protect the area's natural beauty.

Here is some more info:
——— Art Community and Shops ———
Ban Khang Wat - a modern local art community with a small selection of restaurants, coffee shops and local artisans who make, live and sell their wares. Small art festivals and film screenings also take place here on occasion.
Small shops and mini-marts: Go out of our gate, turn right and 20 seconds later you're at the first of many family run local shops that sell a selection of goods from toiletries, to beer to fresh fruit and vegetables.

———Restaurants and Coffee Shops ———
Restaurants - within walking distance of our house is a wide selection of small local restaurants and eateries. I've never counted but there are at least 20 places within 15 minutes walk of our house, with more coming all the time.

There are coffee shops everywhere, and almost all have wifi and nice places to sit and relax.

There are also noodle shops, food stalls, prepared food markets (esp. in the evening), and local bar/beer gardens.

———Activities———
Cooking Schools
I can recommend a variety of cooking schools, and can help book if you want me to. Also, I occasionally teach small sessions on how to cook northeastern Thai/Lao regional cuisine.

Meditation
This area is famous for its meditation temples- Wat Rampoeng, Wat Umong, and others. But usually they offer longer courses. There is one temple (Wat Suan Dok) that also has one-day meditation courses— it’s about a 15min bike ride from the house.

Thai Massage
There are many, many massage shops around Chiang Mai, including in our neighborhood. It is also possible to have a masseuse come to the house, and I can help you contact one, but I cannot guarantee there will be one available . An hour-forty-five minute course is 600 baht (or maybe a little more if two people each do one hour). Masseuses will not come to the house for only a 1-hour massage.

Hiking & Biking
There are many trails leading up into the jungle of Doi Suthep National Park, just a few meters away. You can hike, jog, run! There is even a trail that goes all the way to the top of Doi Suthep mountain! If you prefer running on a track, there is a public track a few hundred meters down the road.

Chiang Mai University (CMU) agricultural campus (not far from here) has quiet country roads frequented by local joggers and cyclists each morning and evening.
Doi Suthep Non-Hunting Area, just a few steps from the house, offers a beautiful series of nature trails leading to and around the area near Wat Umong. This is a great place to take a stroll and get a glimpse of local wildlife from wild deer, wild red cows, to exotic local birds, insects and even smaller reptiles.

Mountain biking is very popular here, and several of the best trails start at the top of Doi Suthep and end up not far from the house. Very convenient! Mountain bikes are available for rent in different parts of town.

Free Bicycles
We have a few very basic bikes you can use for free at the house.
Biking is a fun way to explore the area. You can reach Nimman in approximately 15 mins and the Old City in approximately 20 mins - the road goes gently downhill on the way there, so for those feeling lazy you could always hire a Song Thaew and put your bikes on the bike to return.

———Temples———
Wat Umong - one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai. Partially set unground its name translates as the cave temple. It's set completely within nature. It's the number #1 attraction on Trip Advisor and can be access by 15 minute walk along the village road or much more interestingly, pick up the start of the nature trail at the south gate, just 3 minutes walk from our place as described above (Doi Suthep Non-Hunting Area).

Wat Ram Poeng is a beautiful temple complex with many practicing monks and outside visitors. Its one of the largest centres in Thailand for participating in Vipassana silent meditation courses and it has a real charm and ambience. Our favorite time of day to visit is early morning where you can explore the setting during the quiet hustle of morning prayer and the giving of alms. Take a camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities.

Wat Pong Noi is a large village temple down the street from the house. Each evening the street outside Wat Pong Noi is home to wide selection of street vendors selling prepared food. It’s a great place to visit to pick up a snack or a meal take home - or why not just find a seat and eat on the street. This is one of my favourite places to visit and especially at night time when the place comes alive. Every Monday and Saturday there is a small afternoon/evening market held inside the grounds of the temple which is also worth a look if you happen to be in the area.
